Shelves are well stocked, prices are reasonable, but what makes it worth the stop are the odd items, especially seasonal, that you won't find at other stores. And the furniture is good quality.

There is a post within the last week that is full of wrong info about big lots. First off the starting wage is $8.50/hr to start. And what stores don't have a glitch with their pos system now and then. I am at this store numerous times throughout the week. The cashiers do their best to hustle customers through the checkout process. If you are that impatient that you can't wait your turn then go to Walmart where I personally have waited in lines a hell of a lot longer. Notice how there is over 15 registers and maybe 4 open at any given time at Walmart. people should not post negative reviews unless they have all the facts and info needed to do so. Big lots is not an exclusive product store, but then again what store really is. The prices are good and the staffing is great. Big lots employees go out of their way and stop what they are doing to help customers find things they need in the store, answer questions about anything they can. I've even seen them go isle to isle getting items on shopping lists for customers to make their trip faster and easier.

I've been a longtime customer of this company and a frequent visitor to the Chardon store; however, what I've seen recently has caused me such dismay that not only am I no longer purchasing my housewares at this store, but none of my family and several of my friends no longer do either. The store management is essentially indifferent to its floor associates, paying them as little as $8/hr and scheduling them for irregular or on-call shifts based on need - even though I just came back from the store and saw only TWO cashiers for the entire checkout line network. The lines themselves were very long - people were leaving to go to Walmart or Target - so clearly whoever manages scheduling did not do their job. This is the fourth or fifth time I've seen this type of understaffing and, frankly, I've had it enough of it. There was one time the entire POS system was offline and instead of taking matters into his own hands, the store manager Steve simply left it to the most recently-hired part-time associates to fix the problem. It was appalling. If you care about the store's staff and wish to send a message to its lethargic and callous managers, shop somewhere else. Nothing you find there is exclusive to Big Lots and in fact their prices aren't especially competitive compared with the other chain stores. Update: I will respond to the individual who posted the review criticizing my review on a point-by-point basis. "First off the starting wage is $8.50/hr to start." Which is not a living wage. It's slavery. Second, you left out that all associates are hired part-time, with temporary status, which means that derisory wage is actually lower than it appears, given the limited hours they get. Moreover, as temps, they can be let go at any time until the store management decides to play favorites and make one or two of them permanent. Hence the revolving door of employees this store is notorious for. Why would they leave if it's as good as you claim? "And what stores don't have a glitch with their pos system now and then." You completely missed the point. The indifferent and incompetent response from the store leadership during such an episode - leaving it to the cashiers to figure out the problem and continue transactions - is what's wrong with the situation. Not technical problems, which affect any system sooner or later. There's NO contingency plan in place, unlike at Walmart and other stores. "I am at this store numerous times throughout the week. The cashiers do their best to hustle customers through the checkout process." Yes, they do. I gave them the credit for that and said they work hard. Explain to me why those very same hard-working cashiers don't get more hours, full-time status, pay raises, holiday weekends off to see their loved ones, or promotions? "If you are that impatient that you can't wait your turn then go to Walmart where I personally have waited in lines a hell of a lot longer. Notice how there is over 15 registers and maybe 4 open at any given time at Walmart. people should not post negative reviews unless they have all the facts and info needed to do so." Walmart has self-checkouts and adjust their cashier roster to how busy the store is. You have no business telling anyone what to post or not to post. The people who shop here have a right to know that they're spending money in a store that abuses its staff with lewd sexual comments and blames them for anything that goes wrong, even if it's management's fault. "Big lots is not an exclusive product store, but then again what store really is. The prices are good and the staffing is great." That depends who you ask. Certainly not anyone that works there below the floor lead level. "Big lots employees go out of their way and stop what they are doing to help customers find things they need in the store, answer questions about anything they can." And this has what to do with anything I said? Stop being a shill for a company that doesn't care about its own people.
