It opened its doors in 1965 to serve Moore Elementary School, Councill Elementary School, Western-Olin High School and the neighborhood. In 1995 East Ensley branch library was renovated. The East Ensley library is one of 19 locations of the Birmingham Public Library system and one of 40 public library locations in Jefferson County, AL.
