I’m leaving this review in hopes to help future travelers, assuming the management makes some changes. The rental car setup has no signs whatsoever once you enter the garage, you just have to make sure to turn right once you get into the parking garage to find the desks inside a small corridor. Security and such was fine, and it looks mostly updated, but the lack of signage is an issue. I saw several people a bit confused.

Super comfortable airport. Has chairs and tables more like a private lounge than an airport. Also has a drinking water fountain, so there is free water to drink.

Overall a decent small airport. Clean with great staff. My only wish is that they would have more direct flights available.

I fly through this airport quite often and this morning had a less than great start when I arrived a bit more than 40 minutes before my flight.  I know the airport is very small and slow, and I have always been able to get to the gate withing 10 minutes of arriving at the airport.  This time I was checking a bag instead of doing a carry on only and with AA regulations you must check your bags 45 minutes before the flight is schedule to leave (I know now).  Since it was right before 5:30 in the morning and I was being told that my bag could not be checked and I could not leave my bag for the next flight because of a few minutes, I was becoming more peeved by the second.  After having the bag check desk help me by explaining policy and what they could do for me I was able to hop on another flight within an hour, not really giving me a major set back in time which was my fear in the first place.  If it were not for Laprincess and her efforts to make sure my final destination arrival time was not excessively altered this would have been a 2 star review.  Thanks for going the extra mile and not just explaining why I couldn't keep my original travel plans.

I absolutely love my home airport.  It is on the smaller side and is usually stress free.  I do, however, find TSA pre-check to be rather inconsistent.  I travel quite often for work and I have a "travel outfit."  At times, my mules (slide in shoes) are flagged when walking through security, and other times they are not.  At times, the change in my coin purse is flagged in the security conveyer belt, and other times it is not.  At times, we can leave our laptops and toiletry bags in our suitcases/bags, and other times we cannot.  Although these issues occur few and far between, the fact of not knowing what you need to do to get thru security quickly can become cumbersome.  I have yet to find a rhyme or reason to this madness; it really just depends on which day and time you are flying out. 

On the plus side, BHM has relatively good food options.  Jim N Nicks BBQ and Good People Brewery (now coined Birmingham Brewery) are local favorites near concourse A.

Lastly, I, luckily, do not experience many delays at BHM.  Although it is not home to any airlines, BHM is very close to ATL airport and, if traveling Delta and you run into any delays, Delta is usually able to get another plane to BHM within a relatively short time. 

Cool ass bonus: Morgan Freeman is the voice of all announcements at BHM.
