I attended an author signing. They had plenty of room to stand, but not many seats. However, as a bookstore, it really is top-notch. There are 2 floors of books. Plenty of space to wander. Excellent kids area that takes up a third of the second floor. Has a kid size amphitheater, presumably for story time. All book sections are clearly designated. Staff have posted their reviews for some books on note cards on the shelves. The staff is so friendly & helpful, just wonderful. Lastly, there's a small cafe that serves sandwiches, dessert, Italian sodas, among other snacks. Not too pricey. It is a comfortable place to eat lunch & read.

Nice big bookstore. Great kids section. Friendly staff, very outgoing. Good local section. Not terribly different from a "chain" bookstore, except for the staff, staff recommendations, and great coffee shop. Recommended

BookPeople is a cultural Mecca full of books and literary toys, and it features a space where authors and their public meet. Technological leaps and new business models have all but driven stores of traditional media to extinction, but large cities will continue to support at least one vinyl store and one bookstore, and Austin, ranked as one of the better read cities in the country, is crowned by multiple bookstores, among which BookPeople is the jewel. BookPeople has a wide variety of books to browse, and abundant nooks with comfortable chairs allows contemplative afternoons among the sweet smell and rich wisdom of palpable books. The store also features a large newstand with magazines of every ilk, including small press literary quarterlies. An interesting cafe provides rich coffee & nourishment for those who might have overstayed their appetites.

It's a wonderful place I've been going to my whole life. The staff are friendly, the little coffee shop inside is adorable, and they have locally made jewelry and cute kitschy clothing, so it's a great place to look for gifts. It's big enough to feel lost in, but not so big you feel drowned. I can't recommend it enough.

Amazing library. They don't only have a lot of books but they have a very solid selection of the best books for every topic. Very well organized, easy to find your desired books. Great and helpful employees. The only downside of BookPeople is their computers. If you want to search for books I suggest using your phone, their computers can be as old as 15 years.
