About

Non-profit museum on Maine's Midcoast engineering experiences with Maine history for all ages!

Story

There’s a lot to see and do during a visit to the Boothbay Railway Village.

Our thirty acre setting includes more than two dozen buildings many of which are filled with displays of artifacts related to Maine’s railroading history, the advent of the automobile and the everyday life of Mainers from the mid-eighteenth through the mid-nineteenth centuries. Our outstanding Model Railroad Exhibit is still under construction and visitors witness the changes first hand as they visit time and again.

Mission

The Boothbay Railway Village's mission is to conserve, display and interpret artifacts, authentic period structures and technologies utilized in Maine during the historical period of the Mid-19th through the Mid-20th Centuries.

Had a great time with our 17 month old, he fed the 2 goats they have there and loved sitting on the big red fire truck. Great place for him to run around the grass areas. Us adults enjoyed the vintage car collection, ol' timey school house/home displays and also feeding the goats, brings the kid out of you(Get it. Kid. I crack myself up). Riding the train was a great time. Everyone working there is so friendly. It's free for active duty military and their family which was great and gave us the opportunity to spend money in the gift shop.

More to see than meets the eye! From the road, you can't see much, but behind the old train station is a whole "village" and every building has an interesting exhibit. Head so the way to the back and find a barn full of classic cars and trucks!

My 3 year-old loved this place! So much to see and do; but the train ride was his favorite part. I liked that it was self-directed and the village gave us lots to explore. We had great conversations for several days about what we had seen.
