About

A serene space for the practice of meditation, study and inquiry, as well as a venue for classes, workshops, retreats, and Buddhist practice groups.

Story

The Bozeman Dharma Center is the culmination of an idea that has been simmering in this community for many years. Finally, in 2013, the right combination of support, leadership and volunteers has made it possible to establish a shared home for Bozeman’s Buddhist groups – a place of refuge and silence where we can offer a full schedule of sitting practices, instruction and study of Buddhist teachings.

The programs are meant to inspire practice and honor the inner life – solitude and silence, creativity and growth, compassion and wisdom. In these fast-paced and extroverted times, there is a need for serene and quiet places to nurture our spiritual lives and to foster inner growth.

Whether you are just beginning to explore meditation and Buddhism, or have been practicing for years, you are welcome to join us in quiet sitting times, sangha meetings, study groups, weekend retreats and other programs.

Meditation is compatible with other religious traditions and it is not necessary to forgo any religious affiliation to explore these practices. All are welcome regardless of religious affiliation, race, sexual orientation, political or socio-economic circumstances.

It is a serene, beautiful space for the practice of meditation, study, and inquiry. BDC provides a common home for Bozeman’s Buddhist groups, a venue for classes, workshops, and retreats, and a spiritual refuge for the cultivation of wisdom and compassion. Everyone is welcome in the spirit of an open heart and mind.

If you have any questions about the Dharma Center or our programs, please email us at [email protected].

The moment you walk in there's a settled, quiet feeling of peace and welcome. They are very accommodating. I have to travel some distance and have a disability, so it makes it hard to be there as often as I want. This is such a wonderful addition to the community.

This place has been a beautiful, peaceful refuge from the stressful day-to-day world for me. There are three different sanghas who share the space and offer various expressions of Buddhist teachings. There is a daily drop-in free meditation weekdays at noon. The calendar is frequently updated with new classes and opportunities to learn. The space facilitators have consistently treated me with kindness. The space looks beautiful and inspires a meditative mindset whether just beginning the practice or having a well-developed practice. Just enough westernization to make it comfortable to the western patron while retaining the essence of a classical Buddhist sangha. My only concern is that one person with scent sensitivity complains so loudly and often that it makes others feel unwelcome who cannot help carrying a scent of some kind or another due to their jobs or other circumstances unintentional. I understand the need for people to avoid wearing strong perfumes and irritating chemicals, but I've seen it carried a bit too far, brought up frequently by this person and the staff even when no one in the audience was overly-scented. I feel bad for this person's condition but moderation and common sense is needed here. This is a very minor problem overall. This is probably one of the top five best Buddhist facilities in Montana.
