I started here a little over 6 months ago and it’s been one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. I’m amazed at how much I’ve learned having never done any martial arts before starting here. Professor Michael Proctor is a great instructor he also has awesome team of coaches and upper belts. This gym is growing, new additions and classes are being added all the time. You won’t regret giving it a try.

Fantastic gym, amazing coaches, great team. The owner is constantly improving. I've been a member here for 6 months or so and in that time he has added more bags, cage panels, new (and amazing) wrestling and striking coaches and more classes. Go in with an open mind, be humble and follow the rules and you'll love this place!

My 2 children and I started training BJJ at this gym over a year ago. This is by far the best gym I have ever been a member of. I love taking classes here and more importantly, my children love their classes. My son is in Pee Wees and my daughter is in Juniors. They both look forward to their classes and have gained a great deal of confidence from their training. All the coaches are amazing. They are patient and professional. They have excellent communication skills with the kids and do a great job teaching them and keeping them focused. I have also learned a ridiculous amount. Professor Micheal Proctor is an awesome instructor who truly cares about his students. He gives great encouragement and holds his students accountable for their training. It's his job to motivate us, and he actually tries to do that. He is definitely not in it for the money. If you are considering joining this gym, do it now. You won't regret it!!

We absolutely love 253BJJ. My son who is 12 has been training here for 2 years, and regularly competes with the team. I love the standards and the structure of the program. I have never had any issues with any of the staff or the instructors, and the academy is always clean. I know for a fact that when we pcs away, my son will miss this place terriblely!! We love it here!

My first experience with the owner (Michael), was rushed but cordial. I sat down at his desk and his first remark to me was “Ignore the negative reviews”. I hadn’t considered looking them up until this moment. He answered my questions about billing but failed to mention that the contract is for one year (I was under the impression that it was a monthly membership). That’s my fault for not reading the forms in their entirety but also hard to do when you’re being rushed through the process. Weeks later, when I went to talk to Michael about the confusion, he blew me off and said he was “too busy.” Alright, understandable considering having to instruct and run a business at the same time. I waited for him until he had the time so that I could apologize for my lack of attention to detail when it came to the billing but also expressed my distaste with him rushing to lock me into a contract. This is a situation where I had to bite the bullet. A couple months go by, things are going as expected. During this time, I had read through the reviews, good and bad. I didn’t put much stock into it because I am fully aware of how reviews should be used and how they can be abused and damaging to reputations. This is the first negative review I’m submitting for poor customer service and communication projected from the Owner. Just yesterday, I was watching my daughter train at 253-BJJ. There was limited seating, leaving people to stand. I had made yet another mistake by sitting on one of the work benches. He didn’t like that and asked me to not sit there. I didn’t know, not a big deal, so I got up. He said it’s for insurance purposes. Understandable. I got up and said, “I wouldn’t want to hurt myself.” His response was “You got a problem bro?” and proceeded to questioning and confronting me as if I was protesting and had remained seated on the bench. Not only was this embarrassing scene unfolding in front of all the parents, but it was happening in front of a class of 5-6-year-old kids. I couldn’t believe I was paying for a service where I would, instead being offered a seat, being talked to in a manner which I felt I had offended him significantly. I was shocked at his behavior for being, as he expressed to me later, a “40-year old professional.” When he was done ripping me a new one, I admit, I was very confused and did not know what to do next. I stood there a few minutes trying to process what the hell had just happened. I then approached him at his desk wanting some clarity as to his behavior. Apparently when I said, “I wouldn’t want to hurt myself”, he took great offense and decided that would be his queue to talk down and belittle me for all to see. Temperament issues. At the end of class, a couple student's parents approached me and apologized for the mean situation and expressed to me that Michael was very aggressive and should have handled the situation differently. It wasn’t until yesterday those negative reviews came to light. Now, I don’t want one person’s behaviors to ruin the reputations of all associated. The coaches (Ben, Cameron, and Nathan) are all great and have shown a tremendous amount of patience when working with so many kids. They all know how to talk and demonstrate to the kids. So, kudos to those guys. As for the “owner” Michael Proctor, in my experience, he comes off as a self-intitled instructor. If you look at the pictures hanging on the wall of all the instructors who came before him, his is the only selfie. Think on that one a bit. Side note for Michael, because I know he’s going to see this and want to justify his actions with a response. Take some communication classes. Learn how to speak to people with respect. Especially those who funnel money into your business. But then again, I guess once you have them locked into a contract, you can treat them however you’d like. Great business strategy. Lesson to be learned here is, don’t step on your own air hose. Here’s your review.
