A focus on engaging the local community. First Saturday of every month offers free evenings filled with music, dance, hands on art, movie/short film/documentaries, talk tours, and more. Look for what's happening weekly on Thursdays as well. Empowering women and minorities through thought & action. I love my local museum!

We had a rainy day during our stay in Brooklyn so we headed to the museum. It was 20$ per person to include the Georgia o,Keefe exhibit as well as the resident installations. The collections and exhibits were all so different and interesting. I loved learning about o,Keefe as a feminist icon. The black radical women exhibit was beautiful as well. I highly recommend a visit.

Beautiful Beaux-Arts building! Great antiquities, especially Egyptian antiquities but, African, Oceanic, and Japanese art make for notable antiquities collections as well. Lots of Mark Rothko, Edward Hopper, Norman Rockwell, Winslow Homer, Edgar Degas, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Max Weber. The museum also has a "Memorial Sculpture Garden" with salvaged architectural elements from throughout New York City. Great pairing with a trip next door to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.

There are many interesting exhibits to see as part of the permanent collection such as Egyptian Art and European Art. When they have ticketed exhibitions like the current one detailing the life of a specific artist, it adds to the appeal of the museum. Sometimes they have special events also, so check the website for current goings on. They have a paid parking lot on premises and a restaurant and cafe so you can eat if you choose. The gift shop is also nice and purchases go toward supporting the museum.

Every first saturday of the month, the museum is hosting a party-like event until 10 pm. A good crowd was there. Good music was, good vibes. You can enjoy the music for a little bit then actually visit the different galleries and then come back and enjoy the music again.
