Brookside did an excellent job of helping my family coordinate two services for my father (one in Houston and one in Arkansas). We are grateful.

I attended a family funeral held there for a family member held at BROOKSIDE FUNERAL HOME located at 9149 Highway 6 North Houston, Tx. 77095. From the moment we first arrived at the funeral home with our flowers, we were directed to the back of the building to deliver the wreath, and the flowers for the casket. In no uncertain terms the director addressed us in a very rude manner that..."HE HAD INSTRUCTED THE PEOPLE THAT HAD PAID FOR THE SERVICE THAT ALL DELIVERIES WERE TO BE AT THE REAR OF THE BUILDING!!!" He did not introduce himself nor did he bother to ask who we were. He did not know he was addressing the mother of the deceased. After leaving the flowers in the back as instructed by him, we made our way to the front where the mother of the deceased tried to go in and see him for a private moment of reflection with her son who had died by electrocution at his job site. A blond headed woman director came out of the office in a hurry and asked her what she thought she was doing??? The poor distraugt mother answered..."I am the mother of the deceased and would like to go in and visit with him before the rest of the family comes...The blond headed woman replied...."YOU CANNOT GO IN THERE, VISITATION IS NOT UNTIL 3PM THIS AFTERNOON, YOU ARE ONE HOUR EARLY!!!"...in a loud voice she told her this. "IF YOU WANT TO VISIT YOU HAVE TO COME BACK AT THREE AT WHICH TIME YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO VISIT!!!" This mother had not been able to see her son when he was taken to the hospital, nor when he was wheeled out by the medical examiner for an autopsy due to living out of town from where he was. She could very well have allowed her one full hour to herself with her beloved son, but she refused! The poor mother nodded her understanding of the command, and without looking up she proceeded out of the funeral home into the hot day outside rather than wait inside for anymore abuse. At the cemetary this same blond headed woman was barking orders when things were to start, and when they were to end. At the very end of the cemetary service,.. in a gruff voice she stated "THE SERVICE HAS ENDED ALL OF YOU ARE DISMISSED!!!"....People continued to hang around bewildered as to what had just happened, they did not leave wanting to continue praying and reflecting at the foot of the grave. At this time the blond headed woman ordered everyone to back away from the conopied area because the machinery that was to bring dirt to the gravesite was on its way. The canopy was taken down, the chairs were vacated and removed as well as the casket lowered. All implement were removed and the casket lowered followed by the arrival of the machines that were carrying the dirt....all of this with a crowd of people that surpassed one hundred or more. They could not believe this was going on. They continued to stay until the last truckfull of dirt had been dumped into the grave, at which point the people continued to hold a prayer session, and afterward, slowly one by one, they left the area....I fail to understand how such a cold hearted funeral home can operate and advertize themselves as being caring for the bereaved, it is a total lie on their part all they care about is the money, and once in their hot little pockets, they go out of their way to be ugly. I do not recommend this place to anyone to handle the burial of their dog much less to handle the services for a loved relative....avoid this funeral home like the plague, you will be much better off.
