Performance History Reborn

Story

Located 90 minutes from New York City, The Bucks County Playhouse opened in 1939 on the site of a gristmill dating from the late eighteenth century. Ironically, the structure was at that time in danger of demolition; however, playwright Moss Hart and the local community rallied to save the building and re-opened it as a theatrical venue, which quickly became one of the country’s most famous regional theatres. In continuous operation until December 2010, a veritable who’s who of American theatrical royalty has trod its boards, including Kim Hunter, Helen Hayes, Kitty Carlisle, Colleen Dewhurst, Shirley Booth, Lillian Gish, June Lockhart, Grace Kelly, Robert Redford, Bert Lahr, Leslie Nielsen and Walter Matthau. The Broadway Experience. Right in Bucks County. What a tremendous line up of shows for the 2017 season. There is something for everyone. If you haven't been to the Playhouse in a while get here right away. I believe I am going to subscribe as soon as I can. The Playhouse has a plan for everyone.

Have been to 4 shows here since renovation. All of the productions were excellent, however there are a few things that need to be addressed. First of all, parking is a mess and way too expensive, no matter where you park . Same goes for the restroom situation. It's a major hassle. Third , and most important are the senior audiences that usually attend the matinee performances. They talk throughout the shows as if they were home in their living rooms, at times, they sing along with the show ( Buddy Holly show was a perfect example ) and are very rude and entitled when you politely ask them to be quiet. My wife and friends have stopped attending matinees there and recommend evening performances to avoid this situation. Just because you're a senior does not entitle you to ruin everyone else's evening. I wish the staff there would be a bit more dedicated to see that these types of nuisances are seen to in an amicable and swift manner. Otherwise, I recommend this venue highly

Saw "Guy's & Dolls" with a group of six tonight. It was an extremely enjoyable and professional production, with a a talented group of actors. We had a great time. The evening was certainly enhanced by the ambiance of the playhouse with its comfortable seating, good acoustics, adequate restrooms, and dedicated staff. I'll definitely return from NY when a new production strikes my fancy.
