There are only 1 or 2 restaurants left in the entire shopping center. Why is this former strip mall still standing? Even the Starbucks moved out! Crush this place and build something useful to the community.

As a child of the 1990s, I fondly remember this shopping center in its prime. Stores like Blockbuster Video, Dress Barn, Mattress Discounters, a dry cleaner, Chevy Chase Bank (Capital One toward the end), Hair Cuttery, Taco Bell, KFC (I actually remembered when it was just Kentucky Fried Chicken) and of course as is still seen on the photo, Giant Food. It wasn't too remarkable, but a nice place to do some everyday errands. The beginning of the end was when the US Route 29 bypass was completed in 2004. Instead of a taking a pit stop, folks would tend to continue down the road. Another factor was the opening of some new shopping centers in southern Howard County, which drew away the folks from those areas. The ultimate knockout blow was when Burtonsville Shopping Center (itself had a rough time during the 2000s decade after its '70s/'80s prime) was renovated into Burtonsville Town Square. But Mattress Discounters and a dollar store left in 2008, accelerating the decline. With Blockbuster's decline due to technology and Giant moving across the road in 2010, the center just fell even further into the abyss. Then earlier this year, Starbucks closed and moved across the street. Now all that's left is Burger King, a Chinese restaurant, and a little Italian restaurant. That said, Burtonsville still has a couple of new buildings recently being built, and this site still has potential for a revival, but sadly the executives/developers (Edens & Avant), of which a Kohl's or Target was a possibility, are stalling at this moment. What I'd do is to first off, tear down the existing structures and re-do by having the front of the stores face the newer route 29 to allow for some visibility, and to have the main bus stops closer to the old route.

It's okay, the best thing they have going for them is Zens, it's an Asian Grill. The food is excellent, the service is personal. Loved it
