Story

Butch Paxton Insurance Agency, Inc (State Farm) was founded in 1972 by the present owner, Butch Paxton. Butch moved from Valdosta to Brunswick in September 1972 to begin his career as a State Farm agent. The agency, along with State Farm Insurance companies, has improved from offering just auto, fire, life and health insurance to also providing a full line of financial and banking services.
I remember those early years well and receiving a paycheck where I actually owed State Farm money. I had to sell a 1969 Volkswagen Bug to pay the bills. It’s times like that which make me thankful for all the years of support received from family, friends and clients.
After living on Saint Simons Island for several years, I moved to Darien in 2004. Darien had always reminded me of Covington, Virginia (in size), where I grew up. I think I wanted more of a small town atmosphere. Darien and its residents were just what I had in mind. Also, as a photographer, McIntosh County made an even better choice.
From a business standpoint, I hope to play a part in Darien’s growth and development. So far, I have been able to help some by volunteering and serving on a couple chamber committees. I also joined the McIntosh Art Association. The longer I live here, the more I realize that Darien’s future is extremely bright. There is new development already starting with others on the drawing board. With Darien’s location on the east coast, McIntosh County can’t miss. I am happy that with everything going on, our city and county governments are doing a good job of preserving our historic past and natural resources.
One thing people probably do not know about me is that I was the first player at Covington High School to score over 1000 points in Basketball. I’m also a HUGE Virginia Tech fan. Go Hokies!
