I applied for food stamps 3 days after I lost my job on Nov. 21st. Did the app online and interview for verifying on the phone. Got paperwork in the mail for more verification - filled it all out, uploaded it online. It took almost 3 weeks for them to respond by mail, saying they couldn't open the attachments for the files I uploaded, and that I needed to mail, fax or physically drop off the documents. I elected to drop them off in person, thinking this would make the process a little smoother. At the time, there $0 in income in my household. The case was supposed to be expedited. After dropping off everything I was supposed to, and being told by a lady there that I should get my card in 7 to 10 business days, about 2 weeks later I get a letter stating my case had been denied due to lack of documentation!! After attempting to call this office dozens of times and never getting thru, I finally got fed up and called the Ombudsman in Frankfort. He took 5 seconds, looked a my case and told me the lady at this office had scanned THE WRONG SIDE of my papers, hence the denial. I specifically asked him, so they made a mistake, correct? And he said yes, go back up there, bring your documents, tell them and you should get everything fixed. By the way, Google maps is wrong on the time also... This office closes at 4:30PM, NOT 5:00PM. I wasted 2 bus trips and a few hours of time yesterday thanks to that incorrect info. We've been without sufficient food for most of the last 3 months in my household because of this. We literally had to choose to buy food over paying rent this month and had to get assistance and almost got kicked out because of this. This is by far the WORST I've ever seen of a government office. I understand they're probably overworked and underpaid, but people applying for food stamps or assistance do so because they NEED IT. A fair assumption would be that the employees here take the extra five seconds to do their jobs correctly. If they did, maybe their phone lines wouldn't constantly be at capacity, to the point where you HAVE to come in physically. Ugh.

Although I had a rather lengthy wait to see a case worker, Cynthia who worked 
with me was wonderful. She took her time to really understand the problem and made a call to another person to check that the way she was proceeding was correct.  She was kind, patient and most of all, helpful!

Worst place ever. They lose your paper work,  and because your not assigned a case worker means that anyone working there can open your case and dip their hands into it. 
Sometimes the shut your case off without even contacting you on the reason why leaving you to call them or take time out of your day or gas just to go to their office and have a worker say "oh yeah that's not right idk who did that to your case but I'll fix it"
Advice for ktap recipients,  ktap can pay for your tools or books from college of u show them a print off of what u need up to $500. You also get $1500 in either car repairs or car insurance per year,  you can choose to exempt work hours by logging school hours and 20 hours of work per week = 20 ktap hours for the month,  where 10 hours of school per week = 20 ktap hours for the month. 
If you spend food stamps at the farmers market they give u tokens and give you double the money. Say u want to spend $15 they give you back $30 to spend in the farmers market. 
For ktap find a ATM that has "quest" wrote on it and you can pull your child support money off the card in incrimemts of 20 on it for free. 
These are just some of the amenities that workers won't tell you about!  Thankfully I had a kind worker here once that told me before she left to work at the Frankfort office because she said the Lexington one was too horrible to work at any longer.

This phone line now disconnects you if they are experiencing a high call volume. No wonder they are never getting anything done. Gotta love government efficiency.
