Story

Calexico is a real place nestled between California and Mexico. As the name suggests, everything about Calexico is a hybrid: the people, the culture, and especially the food. When we moved to New York City, we were blown away by the variety and quality of the food, but no matter where we looked, we couldn’t find anything that could satisfy our craving for our hometown cuisine. So we began cooking - first for ourselves, then for friends, and thus Calexico -- the restaurant -- was founded.

Our business has grown, but what we do hasn’t changed one bit. We still wake up every day and make the kind of food we like to eat: fresh, flavorful, satisfying. People seem to like it. Hopefully you will too. We’re looking forward to serving you at our newest location in Detroit, now open for business!

We went on a Saturday early evening, it is a nice big spacious restaurant, with nice decor and atmosphere. We were informed that we will have to wait 30-35 minute's for a table, or sit at the bar and get the same service.We sat at the bar of course. We started with drinks, it was not good(the mule), for food I ordered the nachos they were really good and they give you a really big serving of food. All the waitress and waiter's seemed not in touched with any of the customers (well at the bar). Overall decent nice restaurant, will go again.

We checked in, many open tables both indoors and outdoors. Told it was 30 minutes wait although no one in front of us on the list. We sat at bar and had drinks (very good Devil's Advocate). Finished drinks while watching several parties which arrived after us be seated. The hosts were busing tables and running place settings, leaving the host's stand unmanned. Took 20 minutes for someone to take our orders. The chips and salsa should be free....it would give us something to eat while we wait...and wait...and wait. On to the food..... The elonse (corn on the cob, topped with yummy stuff) was excellent! The pork burrito was good. The beef burrito was very good. Both were ordered wet. Our food arrived at table 55 minutes (mine) and 65 minutes (hers - they messed up her order and had to remake it) after we sat at table. That does not include the time at the bar. The bonus was they gave us the mistake to take home...a nice touch.

Waited over 20minutes until I got up and requested a waitress. Once she came she didn't apologize for out R wait. We ordered our food and it was mediocre, for sure not worth the price. One small basic taco (Gringo) for $5 and a bowl of flavorless rice and beans for $3 which I could hardly eat. The $14 nachos don't have much Mexican flavor and I usually love nachos. I probably won't be back. The place looks nice though

This is my go-to restaurant when in Detroit. With a casual atmosphere, good prices, friendly staff and incredible food, there's no wonder this place is always just close to full. Reminds me of Montreal-level of quality food and Motown soulful hospitality. A++

Why 2. Well over all the atmosphere is beautiful. Nice decor. The drink I ordered was good. The food however was nasty, to be nice. I ordered the Enchiladas. Don't do it. I hope they improve on it. However I believe the manger knew of this and paid for the drink.
