The whole team, from the first person who answered the phone, to the last box coming off the truck in my destination, did an outstanding job. They took care of my entire household as if it were their own - there were no damages and no lost items. The estimator was very professional, and produced a binding quote on the spot. The packers were absolutely outstanding. The loading crew, driver and unloading crew were extremely kind. Everything went off without a hitch.

Capitol Moving came through for us in a major way when we relocated from Connecticut to North Carolina in December. I had signed on with a new job in North Carolina in October, leaving my wife and three children to sell our Connecticut home while I looked for a new home in North Carolina. The logistics of placing our home on the market, searching for a new home, and all of the aspects of a major relocation and taking on a new job was incredibly overwhelming for us, especially when I was in one state and my wife was in another. We had chosen a moving company, whose customer service was horrific and we wound up having to drop them only a few weeks prior to our move. I called Mark Cavallari of Capitol and explained our situation. He came out to our CT home the same day I called and reassured us that we were in good hands- that they would take care of everything. He provided accurate quotes and was attentive to all of our concerns and needs. From there everything was as smooth as glass - our move went incredibly well! Eric was the Lead and Driver, along with his right-hand man, Joe. We had the privilege of working with them on both ends of the move. These two guys are class acts for sure. It was 7 degrees and a snowstorm on our move day. These guys had the greatest attitudes, were kind, courteous, professional and just great guys to be around. Their kindness and sense of humor removed so much of the stress we were under while moving. We had newly cleaned, white carpets in our selling home and even with 6 inches of snow and muck outside you would never have known anyone had been in the house. We had several cherished furnishings including an antique Grandfather clock, a special hand-crafted hope chest and a hutch made by my deceased father-in-law. The crew moved everything we owned over a thousand miles and not one item was damaged or lost. Obviously, I can't speak highly enough about our move with Capitol. They came highly recommended to us by friends who had previously relocated from CT to SC, and we highly recommend them as well!

Overestimation (Personally paid move) Having used Mayflower for a first time move and having a nice experience, I decided to give their owning company United Van lines a go. Out of the 3 first time quotes received, Capitol was the highest in weight by 1000lbs+ but was provided some spiel regarding Allied (probably should of chosen) being a poor choice and mayflower is United (although I had a different agent quote - hindsight is a wonderful thing...) as well as i was saying i would move myself - told not recommended due to the estimate weight should of gone with my gut - $4k minimum cheaper. Capitol estimator came round he was nice and spoke of his experience of being a driver for united for XX number of years - this increased our confidence in the company - first quote came in at nearly 11,000lbs. Having had that quote I preceded to rent a u-haul trailer to reduce the weight and had the move re-quoted which led to the new weight of 9000lbs with capitol - hindsight - should of had Allied come out. I took the bound weight option as was recommended it was a better option to over estimate than under and from his experience we will be close (he was an old driver for united so experience was very high) and everything is per the contract. Day before move day and on move day we had to add 16 large 27 gallon totes, a love seat, a king bed base and other bits and bobs on the day of the move. The ACTUAL WEIGHT CAME IN AT 7640lbs ( 1360 under - around 620kg) with a cost of $.93 per lb and reimbursement at $0.32. I agree some estimation error is expected but 20% is too great especially for the average family to absorb (imagine if i had not added the above articles!!). I now see this gross overestimate to manipulate the difference in price to maximize revenue for the agent and company at a cost to my family nearly $1000. The management company (all extremely pleasant) said this was ‘a bit excessive’ and United Van lines said immediately to speak with the agent to see if they would provide some personal compensation. Have tried speaking to Capitol, i was finally told I would hear back in a couple of days -so i waited a couple of weeks, called again and was told tomorrow I would hear from management- 4 days later I call again and a different lady picked up to whom i had only spoken to briefly before just told me 'she doesn’t know why I keep calling' and 'it’s probably just a room of furniture!' I see it as a lot more than a room of property weight wise and it has cost me nearly $1000.00 not including the damage to an outdoor swing set and chest of drawers (still not received anything.... from United van lines (unrelated to Capitol)) Summary - Overestimated by 20% (would of been a lot more if i hadn't of added articles through the management company and on the day) to manipulate the situation and gain that $0.60 difference... i still haven't spoken to management as i was told i would. They are very responsive when they trying to get your business but once you sign the curtain comes down and its all on other people, job done. Thank you very much.

relocation. I decided to pay out of pocket for their storage option after being quoted a monthly price following several phone calls with their representative. Now, several months later, I've been informed that the actual price for storage was about $150 more per month than what I was told was a firm price. They aren't willing to budge on this, and they have all of my furniture in their storage facility. I don't know what to do, honestly. I've never been in a situation with any company like this before. My advice - go with someone else. I'm going to end up paying over $1000 that I didn't expect to spend, because I trusted this company and their representatives. I spoke to them, they blamed me for the mistake and when I asked to file a formal complaint with a supervisor, they stopped returning my emails. Seriously - one of the worst experiences I have had with a business. Ever. Update: The only way I was able to get any sort of response from this company was by posting reviews on Yelp and google. I spoke to the person who reached out to me. She was polite and listened to my concerns, then said that the president of the company would be in touch. Surprise - never happened. Poorly run organization. Period. We've lost our $1000, and there's no way to get it back. I am updating my review based on the response of the organization - I was told that I would be contacted by the president of the company. I received NO FURTHER correspondence from the organization - except, of course, in response to this review, falsely stating that I had been contacted by someone who never established communication. Simply observe the way that this company treats a consumer who was given false information by one of their representatives. Stay far, far away.
