It was opened to the public on January 23, 1965 after 10 years of advocacy by the Capitol View community.HistoryThe Reverend Sister Patsy Allen, President of the Marshall Heights Civic Association petitioned the Senate Appropriations Committee in 1963 to provide funds for a public library. The staff make coming to this library worth it. They should get 5 stars. The building is old and stuffy and desperately needs updates. The computers are usually available but often debris and food partials are left which causes ants and bugs.

I have been going here for years, and throughout my experience I realized that the staff have attitude problems, they are really mean, also they judge you before they know you. There is only 1 person nice. The staff is very strict and unequal. But they are welcoming (at first), then mean. Children can't come in before 3:15. The staff also talks about you behind your back.

The time I spent going to this library was mostly enjoyable. My sons and I have been attending this library for a few years. It has a bus stop right infront and the grounds are clean as well as the building. The computer lab is a small section which is very nice and easy to sign up and use. I recently had a baby and the environment is family and breastfeeding friendly. There are plays and live events that are inclusive in that they are free or low cost. The facility is surprising safe and quiet. The drawback is that they seem to have a bias against homeschooling families or maybe just my little family. One of the ladies with whom I developed a reported with over the months was a bit condescending, hurtful and judgemental when she expressed I'm doing a poor job of educating my child. She also "evaluated" my son during the time he should have been enjoying storytime without my permission. Also no one really uses the preschool storytime and she informed me its a poor choice for socialization. Something that's really something the library should address rather than suggesting the customer frequent some other place. We've had no other issues but will probably not go there very much anymore. If you are traditional in your educational choices you may have a much more fulfilling experience than we did.
