Overall, pretty good Mexican based food. They have an extensive margarita menu but they are pretty expensive drinks. In fact, have a couple drinks and it'll cost more than your food! It's located dead square in a tourist area of Laguna, so it's definitely not somewhere I'd visit regularly as a local in the area. If you are visiting from out of the area and the wait is say, greater than 30 minutes, I would say skip it and go elsewhere. Its good, but not so good to wait that long.

Delicious!!! Real margaritas with fantastic service! Ruby was amazing and the food was outstanding. Well worth checking out!!

Very authentic Mexican food IMO, very flavorful, at least my dish anyway (Blackened Chicken Burrito with Avocado). Great blend of spices meshed with a complimenting sauce. Would definitely eat here again if im the area and in the mood for Mexican food.

We walked in as "tourists" from the Valley and Carmelita's was packed. We knew it had to be good. There were no open tables but the hostess suggested we sit at the 'bar' with our teenage children by the open kitchen. Our kids enjoyed watching the chef's do there magic while my hubby enjoyed a margarita. The food was not your typical restaurant Mexican food. Very fresh, and tasty. The server asked what spice level each of us wanted for our entrees. Very good food. Fun atmosphere. Walking distance to the beach. Will go again when in the area.
