Sure the Y, craft breweries, and restaurants are great, but the Carnegie Center is the real treasure in New Albany. Rotating exhibits, some nationally juried, an award-winning Underground Railroad exhibit, great art and it's all free! I never tire of telling friends one doesn't have to go to Cincinnati and pay $20 a head to learn about the Underground Railroad.

The Carnegie Center is an invaluable asset to the community. They curate shows with artwork from local artists as well as other artists. There are frequently thoughtful exhibitions that provide a history of the area, insight into the lives of famous historical locals, or prompt consideration for social topics. There are education opportunities for families and children. My kids loved the papermaking workshop. Al Gorman is very knowledgeable and is happy to share with anyone who is interested.
