About

Story

Cascade Caverns is an "up-close and personal" kind of cave. Our guided tours are small, limited to 15 people. Our guides are knowledgeable and friendly. Come out today and experience the mystery and wonder of the cave. Tours are run every hour on the hour from 10am to 4pm year-round. Reservations are only available for groups of more than 14 people. Please visit our website for more information about prices and special tours and other events.

Cascade Caverns is situated within a 105 acre private park. We have tent camping (primitive or with electricity) as well as full-hookup RV sites. Walking trails (approximately 1.5 miles) abound with native plants and wildlife. See herds of whitetail and axis deer along with lizards, rabbits and rock squirrels. The Caverns were also the setting for the Civil War era novel "The Hermit of the Cavern" (original title Ein Verfehltes Leben - A Wasted Life, 1876; translated 1932) and the movie Father Hood (1993) starring Patrick Swayze.

The beauty of this living cavern makes it one of Texas’ finest caverns. It is host to the albino Cascade Caverns Salamander (Eurycea latitans), which is only found in this area of Kendall County. It is also home to Tricolor bats (Eastern Pipistrelle), cliff and leopard frogs, and various bugs such as cave beetles and crickets. The cave is full of formations such as soda straws, "chubby" stalactites and also has unique solution domes, an underground waterfall and several lakes. So don’t forget your camera. Cascade Caverns is a vacation experience you and your family will never forget.

Super cool cave! I went here with my church group a few years back, and the tour guides were friendly. After our tour, they allowed us to have our worship service in a very open part of the cavern, and it provided great acoustics for our hymns!

Our tour guide was awesome - very knowledgeable and just the right amount of humor. We saw bats, frogs, and salamanders. The caves - 5 rooms - were gorgeous and refreshingly cool on a 95 degree summer day. The tours seem to depart every hour on the hour and are about 60 minutes long. Only about 15 people go on each tour so it doesn't feel crowded and you get good photos. There are a lot of steps and the ground can get slick with water. You'll also get dripped on quite a bit but will by no means get soaked. Wear good shoes. Very cool tour!

The water fall was man made, but nice cavern otherwise. Floors are slippery and there's a couple places you'll have to squat and walk. Hard for seniors, ok for kids. The walk out is challenging. We enjoyed it, but took a toll on my 73 yr old dad.

Adventure Tour: 5/5 - Don't miss out on the Adventure Tour! This beginner-friendly tour explores the lower cave that continues from where the regular walking tour ends in the Cathedral room. Greg led us with his great dry humor through deep mud that captures your shoes, freezing water, surprises at every turn and wonder. I suggest doing your research of this great place before visiting 'cause Greg would much rather climb around with you than discuss the geology, history, etc. He is also very friendly and keeps the group safe. It is so fun! Camping: 3/5 - There are spots with electricity, some without electricity, bathrooms, a laundry room and someone you can call at any time. The spots for tent camping are not marked so we were confused where to set up or park. We were also confused why we were the only ones who were not in a RV. People need to get out more... Trails: 1/5 - We hiked the short .5 mile trail leading from the tent camping area at night. It was only marked with a few signs explaining the wildlife and these little colored ribbons that pop up sometimes. I could see how it would be hard to navigate the trail even during the day. Staff: 5/5 - Very friendly, helpful and fun! Price: 3/5 - What I expected. $25 for a tent spot (no electricity, 2 max with $3 for each extra person) & $55 for the Adventure Tour
