With the classically elegant interior design, the soft sound of new age harp music strumming in the background, and a busy schedule, it is nearly impossible to imagine this 5,000 square foot, full service salon and spa began as a humble one-person operation back in 1992. Could it be that “Cassiel”, the angel of good fortune, opened her wings and embraced Diane Dubois, owner of Cassiel’s Salon & Spa?
Diane Dubois operated as both a licensed electrologist and micropigmentologist for two years. Within the confines of a one-room office, her client base quickly grew as a direct result of referrals from physicians, local beauty salons, and satisfied customers. Diane recalls the early stages of planning, “My schedule was booked out months and I knew I needed help. While in the process of hiring an additional electrologist, the realization that this geographic area appeared to be lacking a professional skin care facility struck me and I thought to myself, ‘why is this? Is there not a demand in this area?’” Before deciding to expand services to include skin care, Diane decided to find answers to those questions.
Diane’s thorough research revealed there was indeed a demand for professional skin care in the community. In fact, the demand encompassed many other spa services that seemed to be missing, including a need for fine retail skin products. So, with a realistic approach, Diane forged ahead with a new vision. She surrounded herself with a trusted and experienced team of planners who assisted her in the development of a business plan. Starting slowly, she added only skin care and massage to the menu. By December of 2005, Cassiel’s Skin Care became Cassiel’s Salon and Spa, Inc.
Aside from an obviously inherent business sense, Diane’s innate warmth and devotion to her employees and clients are also evident. She insists that they are the primary drivers leading to her success. “I have such a soft spot for my employees. I love that I have a team of driven providers who are as passionate about their craft and their clients as I am.” As for her clients, “A client once said to me ‘You really love making me feel good, don’t you?’ I just smiled back at her and replied yes.” To Diane, there is no greater reward than knowing that she truly helps people to feel good about themselves.
Philanthropy is another key to Diane’s success. “My belief in giving to the community is fundamental –You receive in return of what you give. Knowing the community in which I live and the struggles it has faced over the decades, and continues to face in this economy, I feel it is a responsibility as a local business owner to donate where I can.” To date, Cassiel’s Salon & Spa contributions equate to 8% of the net income. The goal is to be able to achieve a 10 to 12% contribution margin in the future.
Under Diane’s dynamic leadership, Cassiel’s Salon & Spa has morphed into an entity that is truly unique. Employing a staff of 17, Diane strives to maintain a family-oriented atmosphere. The culture is team-based, with an emphasis on open-communication, continuing education, and exceptional customer service.
Currently, Cassiel’s offers a full spectrum of hair services; spa manicures and pedicures; electrology; permanent make-up; skin care treatments; therapeutic massage; and, many other specialty add-on services.
