Where do I begin? My friend and I walked in the store last night and were looking for running shoes for my husband (a veteran). After being in the store for 5 minutes or so, not one employee came up to us to ask if we needed assistance so we went next door to Foot action. After being disappointed with their selection, I went back to Champs to purchase a pair of Adidas. Again, not one employee came to us asking if we needed help. We went up to the register and there was the manager (Justin) ... he checked for the size I wanted and then suggested that I order it to be delivered because the size was not in stock. Great, let's do that I said. I am a fairly young wife and mother of 3 and I purchase urban sneakers often. I always use my husband's military discount.. Let's backtrack a bit... My friend expressed concern about one of the associates folding shirts instead of helping customers (the store had a fair amount of customers). The manager Justin, was hopping back and forth working two registers instead of asking the associate to help out. He automatically became defensive and rude stating that his store is "up 180 thousand" and said "theft is a big issue". He was offended that we pointed out the obvious. As former retail (urban shoe store) employees, my friend and I know first hand that loss prevention 101 is to greet EVERY customer. He was obviously trying to take all of the sales. We were uncomfortable and appalled by the way he was treating us. Back to my purchase... I was trying to explain to him the way Footlocker does the military discount because they share the same system. I tried to tell him several times to put in my husband's information without his suffix and it will work. He was so busy bouncing back and forth from registers that he was not listening to me. He told me that he was "doing me a favor" by putting my husbands information because it should be mine and "the cameras are watching" whatever... the point is he is wrong. When doing the military discount, you MUST put in the service members information and as the dependent all I have to do is show you my card and enter his information. Needless to say, I told him to cancel the transaction. I then went upstairs to footlocker where I was greeted the very second I walked in and was helped immediately. I ended up purchasing a pair of Nike's and received the military discount. The manager at footlocker was extremely kind and helpful and so were his associates. After my purchase, I went back down to Champs to let Justin know that my money was spent elsewhere and that I will be putting in a formal complaint. He was rude, unprofessional and the morale of his store was just plain horrible. I just called the store asking for a phone number to the district manager and Justin answered. He says that I am harassing him and I honestly believe that he just knows he was wrong. Even if your store is up a million dollars... you must treat each customer with the highest level of respect and dignity. I for one, will more than likely never go back to Champs and would suggest to my friends, family and colleagues to stay away.
