About

The new shipping container-based, full-service restaurant. Our menu rotates seasonally and features locally-sourced items cooked on 100% charcoal.

Story

Charcoal Garden Bar + Grill is an exciting restaurant concept that brings a unique design and gastronomic approach to Miami’s ever expanding culinary scene. In Feb. 2017, Ken Lyon, a veteran player in Miami’s restaurant and catering industry, opened the first full-service eating establishment at The Wynwood Yard, an entrepreneurial community hub that has gained national recognition. Housed within several modified shipping containers, Charcoal features a menu of charcoal-grilled food, seasonally driven, ethically harvested and sourced off the industrial grid. It is a gathering space for friends and family, locals and visitors and emanates the casual, inviting and creative ambiance iconic to Wynwood, the burgeoning arts and entertainment district north of Miami’s downtown.

For a Tuesday night a good amount of the tables were filled. It took quite sometime until a server found the time to seat us. The drink order (ice tea) was simply forgotten. The meats and cheeses as appetizers were really good - great choice and nice presentation. As both was quite filling we decided for vegetarian main dishes - not a good choice. The 'House specialty' is simply a pan with dry fried rice for $18 - neither noodles nor taste. Else we had the mushrooms, which in any other restaurant would have been served as a side (also de to the size of the portion) and also not for $16. When the server asked how the food was and we replied 'well, it's simply dry fried rice', it was acknowledged like any other answer we could have given. Overall it was a mixed experience but rather leaning towards the overpriced hip experience.

Went there for dinner with friends and it was a total disaster. First, I ordered a lemon drop martini which was super sour (lemon drop martinis are supposed to be sweet). I sent it back so they could fix it and they took so long that it came back warm. The steak was served without the side dish or the salad. By the time the side dish arrived the steak was already cold. The salad that came with the steak never made it to our table. We found the food and drinks to be over priced and the service was terrible. We shared our experience with the restaurant manager and she didn't even offer a discount. My friends and I are never going back.

Great experience twice now. Probably the best Scallops I have ever had. Service is professional and a great vibe all around. Brilliant concept Ken Lyon to have shipping containers converted in such a cool way. A must see and try the food!

Overprice for what it is. I guess they are aiming to be a upscale food truck on a food truck park in Wynwood?! We just had a couple appetizers and charcuterie. I had better for less.
