We were just there for 10 days. Staff is always friendly since this is our second stay here. I have a lot of doctor appointments and even had surgery at The University of Chicago. The beds are a lot more comfortable than Laquinta next door. Last time we were there had to change to Lake Shore. Next time we may have to be there up to two weeks. Hopefully will get good enough pricing to stay here again. 
Restaurant is a little expensive but they went above and beyond to accommodate me for that I am grateful. And since we stayed so long we got coupons for breakfast.

Great little please to stay will stay again.

So I can only speak from my experience so I'll do just that regardless of all the negative reviews here. The staff was polite and friendly. They answered all of my questions. The rooms were quite clean. It looked somewhat updated. No complaints on anything other than two things. First off pull off the photo and description of the pool, because one that had been sitting empty for years does not really exist. I think people won't necessarily think to ask if the pull has water or not. Second thing, the one brown fuzzy blanket made me itch, so I didn't use it. And the snack machine needs more options. Other than that no complaints. Also the ice machine in the lobby was convenient.

Pretty stripped down for the price. Just basic amenities. No fridge or microwave. Pool shut down. Good location though. On the lake in Hyde Park. Hotel has free parking and $8 breakfast buffet.

I had a good experience at this hotel. The staff were friendly and were willing to answer my questions without any issues. The room and the towels were clean. Parking is free for your vehicle and there is a free shuttle that will take you to various destinations in downtown Chicago, as well as the museums upon request. There is also free wifi. I ran into three issues while I was there, which weren't too big of deal to complain about. The pool is not in use anymore. They should probably not advertise that. The Cafe does not open up at 6:30, as stated in their booklet. I was able to go in, but no one was there except for security. The freezer door in the mini fridge was not there, which made the fridge basically useless since everything that was stored in there turned frozen. Other than that, if you are looking for a cheap place to stay for a couple of nights, I'd recommend this hotel.

Check in time listed as 3, no rooms available until after 4 and no explanation as to why. Checked in went out to dinner and came back to a room with no lighting. Only one bathroom light worked. Moved to a different room same situation. Got a 3rd room and at least we could see where we were walking so I just stayed there. Plan was to stay 2 nights looking for alternate place for my second night. No manager on duty to talk to. Definitely not worth what they charge
