DCF's MISSION: Working together with families and communities for children who are healthy, safe, smart and strong.

Mission

In partnership with families and communities, the Department of Children and Families will advance the health, safety and learning of all children we serve, both in and out of school, identify and support their special talents, and provide opportunities for them to give back to their communities and leave the Department with an enduring connection to a family.

Seven Cross Cutting Themes:

1. implementing strength-based family policy, practice and programs;
2. applying the neuroscience of early childhood and adolescent development;
3. expanding trauma-informed practice and culture;
4. addressing racial inequities in all areas of our practice;
5. building new community and agency partnerships;
6. improving leadership, management, supervision and accountability; and
7. becoming a learning organization.

Total incompetence reigns supreme over the most basic forms of common sense here at our wonderful departments of children and "families" in Connecticut!!!! Obvious sarcasm of course, considering how our current department of children and families actually does nothing more than just tearing families apart with over and over again!!!!! Burned out, over worked and over stressed caseworkers working under an ineffective and business-only focused commissioner who doesn't seem to have the slightest clue of what our state's children REALLY NEED are destroying our families!!! Under the current commissioner's directions, burned out and over worked social workers are ordered to just stick any child into any facility or foster home, regardless of whether it even a good fit or not!!!!!! Our Connecticut department of children and families actually has one of the worst track records in the entire nation when it comes to quality of care for our kids!!!! These are my opinions but I know I not the only one who stands alone. All the department of childrena nd families ever seem to be concerned with is "what the bottom line" to our state's budget? Doesn't matter if children's lives suffer in the process because Connecticut commissioner for department of children and families wants to try to reach her national benchmark numbers!!!! Nothing else matters to Connecticut department of children and families except jamming as many children as they possibly can into already over-crowded programs and facilities which is not what our children really need!!!! Take this as a wake up call, Connecticut department of children and families to stop playing with families and children's lives!!!!! Give our state's families and children what they really need which is: strip down all the pointless and over-paid bureaucracy at department of childrens and families headquarters/offices, and instead using that money to open and create programs and facilities which actually make Connecticut families and children stronger!!!! Isn't that what your mission is: to make all our families stronger???? Then why are you just continuing with lip service instead of actually taking action????!!!!!
