About

Coeur d'Alene Elementary is a small public school in Venice, California and is a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. With approximately 500 students in grades pre-K through 5, Coeur d'Alene reflects the spirit of the Venice community.

Story

The Friends of Coeur d'Alene - our Booster Club - was formed by parents before the start of the 2002-2003 school year as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. All parents and guardians of students are automatically members and are welcome to attend our meetings. All members are eligible to run for office and have the power to vote on policy and expenditures.

Monthly meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month (unless rescheduled because of holidays) from 6 to 8 pm, in the school auditorium

Mission

The Booster Club encompasses many groups and committees of parents working to better our school. We are involved in the beautification and safety of the school grounds, environmental awareness, a food drive, and volunteering in the classrooms, library, and PE program. In addition, we coordinate most of the fundraisers that support, and in some cases, make possible the extras that are not included in our LAUSD budget. We believe that these extras make Coeur d'Alene a great experience for our children and include such things as an extensive arts program, physical education program, and computer technology integration.

We hope you'll join our efforts! Active parents make a great school.

Fundraising has become an inescapable part of sending our kids to public school in California. The recent budget crisis in Sacramento means that we must deal with new funding cuts at the state and district levels. Our fundraising efforts are now more important than ever.

The good news is that we have an active and concerned community of families here at Coeur d’Alene. We donate both our money and our time to cover the gaps in our LAUSD funding.

For the first couple of years this schools EDU was really good but when 4th and 5th came it was a horror movie. Teachers pretended to care about what the kids did but they did nothing. Kids pull the fire thing and it puts the whole school in a lockdown. The teacher I had was a total jerk.! Whenever he make a awful joke he was the only one who laughed. He would yell at kid who would have to go to that bathroom. This is why I severely dislike this unreasonible school. I can't tell if this school is a school or a prison yard!

I was amazed at seeing how well the school is run! The education, international diversity, and the after school programs are AMAZING, and a great example for schools everywhere. I am really impressed!!

I attended this grammar school decades ago. It was a nightmare then! I missed many days due to eye and optometry appointments. My absences were excused by notes clearly stating my reasons for being absent. My mother, my responsible party, an adult, signed the notes. The school told me Miss Lynde wanted to see me. I believe her name was Lynde, or Lind, or maybe even Linn, but her first name was Jan, I clearly remember that. I clearly remember she was in her late 30s, maybe early 40s, with blonde, shoulder length hair. Her office was right inside the front door, and immediately to the right. The principal at the time was Mrs Grundy. Miss Lynde was inappropriate in her questioning of me. She told me I looked perfectly healthy to her, and she told me I needed to start attending class more. When I went home and told my mother about the exchange, she made an appointment the very next morning. Well, I can tell you this, that school never wanted to talk to me again! All contact was made directly to my mother. What a bunch of morons. They put themselves right out there to be reamed out. Also, the school, at that time, was predominately Hispanic. We had kids who barely spoke English. Therefore the grades had to be retarded back a year. We were doing first grade work in the second grade. I was bored, excelled, and had to be promoted. It was terrible, because I missed something in the transition: math. I needed tutors throughout the semester. There used to be a dirty, run down apartment complex near the handball courts over towards Abbott Kinney. A Mexican man, in his 20s, used to blast rock and roll music every single day, look out his window, and would wear the same, or multiple white shirts every single day. He did not work, or worked nights. The teachers would not allow us to play near the handball courts, and nothing could be done, because he was in his own apartment window. It was a boring school that never required us to bring home a book. I learned very little there. Thank goodness my family moved to a much ritzier area, and I had a better chance at my scholastic goals. This school was awful.
