The Venice Garden is the most nurturing preschool I could have imagined for my daughters. Sheryl and Tamara and all the teachers here have such open and big hearts. They love and support the children as if they were their own. I feel blessed to be part of this warm and loving community. When applying to preschools, I researched a few dozen schools and toured ten. What we wanted was something that combined many different philosophies (Reggio, Montessori, Waldorf, etc.) and that was play based and did NOT stress kindergarten readiness. (All true for the Venice Garden.) We wanted a place that would embrace our daughter, nurture her growth, and love her as much as we do. (The Venice Garden definitely does!) We wanted a school that didn't force separation and allowed parents to stay as children adjusted. (The Venice Garden encourages this.) We wanted a school with an open door policy, in which parents and other family members can stop by and felt welcomed to stay. (The Venice Garden is so welcoming!) In addition, we wanted a school with a very low student-teacher ratio so that our daughter would have plenty of attention from her teachers. (The Venice Garden’s ratio is 12-14 kids to 3-4 teachers. We wanted a preschool were the teachers were engaged with the students, and we absolutely found it. To offer a brief example, our older daughter is interested in art and recently started talking about ponds. One of the teachers (who was telling the kids about the concept of the horizon and what that looks like) found a reference book with beautiful illustrations of the natural world and specifically ponds. Together, my daughter and her teacher discussed the picture, what is found in ponds, and what she observed about the image in the book, and then my daughter, so engaged, spent hours creating an amazing drawing of a pond with details of bugs, flies, cat-o-nine tails, reeds, etc. I was touched by how much thought, energy, and care the teachers take to meet the kids at their level and to engage them in what their interests are.

As soon as you enter the Venice garden you know that it was created with a lot of love. Every inch of the school has been thought through, from the cozy nook where kids can read books holding an array of stuffed toys, to the art room with every imaginable art product that a kid would want. My daughter was going to another preschool before this and most days she didn't want to go. Since we started this preschool she has never complained about going to school. The teachers are awesome with the kids, patient and loving but at the the same time helping them through their issues. We are very happy with this school.

The Venice Preschool is an oasis for children! After touring the likes of: Redwood Village( Ridiculous price/ridiculous wait list!)Young Minds ( So academic ...it's scary) and Morning Glory ( ok but dumpy...bad location), I was truly discouraged! So much so in fact, I was prepared to pay the nanny for another year. Then I accidentally found an oasis! Seriously! Venice is absolutely LOVELY! The owners have converted an adorable little yellow house into a fantastic school for children. It is on a quiet residential street and is completely gated and has a security gate with code only access on the front. The inside has a cozy nook with books to chill, a beautiful arts n crafts room where they do all kinds of painting and building. The children are free to choose their activities on arrival. Around 9:00 they say hello at a brief circle time and then they go off to play out back. The school pet, "Bunny Foo Foo", is a favorite. And they have a gorgeous treehouse with a long slide and climbing wall. Some children prefer the sand box and the little girls go crazy for the "kid sized" doll house. The child/teacher ratio is a 4 teachers to 12 children! 12 is the max! This is my son's first preschool experience and I was expecting tears from us both. It didn't happen! We both love this school! And I am beyond relived to have found it. Well done Cheryl and Tamara! Traci
