Story

The Colony House is a historic house at 104 West Street in Keene, New Hampshire. The oldest portion of the house, its front block, was built in 1819 by Timothy Hall, a local merchant. The house was purchased in 1863 by Horatio Colony, in whose family's hands it was for a century. It is a brick two story structure with a hip roof. The exterior has modest Federal styling, predominantly in its main entry, with half-length sidelight windows topped by a half-oval fanlight and sheltered by a modest portico. The interior of the building has well-preserved woodwork that took its inspiration from the publications of Asher Benjamin. A c. 1900 addition to the rear emulates the style and building materials of the original block. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

This was my second stay and I loved it both times! Lisa was so accommodating! I was unable to meet with her at checkin, but she sent a welcome letter with full instructions on how to find my beautiful room. If you love taking a step back in time, you must stay at the Colony House! When we met in the morning, Lisa had a delicious breakfast set up for me! We had a lovely chat about the history of the house, and that her great grandparents owned the Colony Mill. I was given a corporate discount and most highly recommend this B&B! It’s superior!

Beautifully-restored federal style house; photos on their website are 100% accurate. Hosts know the area well; very welcoming and helpful. Living room, dining area, and a small kitchen are available to guests 24/7. WiFi throughout. A short 1/5 mile walk and you're right on Main St. Only 4 rooms, so try to book early in high season. Absolutely my first choice in the Keene area.

This was our first bed and breakfast experience and it was a spur of the moment decision for New Years Eve. The House was built in 1819 and is family owned and run. The inside is so beautiful, warm and cozy. It has a lot of charm and is well maintained and clean. The owner and manager of the house, Jocelyn and Lisa(Aunt and Niece) are so welcoming and friendly. Side Note: We went to Elm City Brewery for drinks and dinner, which was great. Everything of interest was within a 5 minute walk. Breakfast was amazing. Everything was so nicely set up for us with all we wanted. For the day we were there, it really felt like a home away from home.

The Colony House is a beautiful space, and the people are wonderful and kind! Even though they don't cook an in house breakfast, they have lots of good options and you're definitely left satisfied.
