Our Mission:The Columbus Arts Council is dedicated to enriching the community through the promotion and sponsorship of the Fine Arts to this end we present visual arts exhibits, host musical & theatre performances & offer art workshops for all ages.

Story

The Columbus Arts Council has been actively promoting the fine arts in and around Columbus since 1981. The Arts Council operates the Columbus Art Gallery year round.

The Gallery has presented over 200 formal exhibits and offers a gift shop that features even more artists. The Arts Council has also sponsored over 180 performing arts events for schools and the general public that have ranged from ballet to theatre and from storytellers to concerts. Many of these events were the result of partnerships with schools, the city, and other local organizations.

The Arts Council has identified the school children and the seniors in our community as our main audiences. We find that the local school systems, are falling short of meeting the fine arts needs of their students. We also find that that a large percentage of our residents are choosing to drive to Omaha or Lincoln for their cultural entertainment. However, our growing senior population is either unwilling or unable to drive out of town to events.

After residing in the basement of the Columbus Public Library for over 25 years, the Arts Council board and staff are researching the possibility of partnering with other community groups to develop a downtown cultural center.

The Arts Council supports the community and the arts by maintaining membership in the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Business Association, Nebraskans for the Arts, and Americans for the Arts.

The Arts Council receives funds for our programs through grants from the Nebraska Arts Council and Mid-America Arts Alliance.
