Place is surprisingly expansive. I enjoy how the seating and ordering area is sectioned, so when you take a seat, it feels like you’re in your own space, apart from a lot of shops where it just feels like a cafeteria. They packed the bagel with content, which I appreciated. Each bite was filling. The mango chutney that I added for $0.50 wasn’t as prominent as I hoped. The bacon was cooked perfectly. It felt like there was seasoning on it, and it was the perfect balance of chewy and crispy. The cheese was actually melted on the egg, which I appreciated. The bagel had a great consistency. I didn’t need to do much to break it apart.
Small cafe with eclectic cozy vibes. We didn’t have coffee but ordered the BLT sandwich, which came with chipotle mayo and a chimichurri sauce. Wow wow wow - I’d come back just for this sandwich. Literally a perfect BLT and the combo of sauces really just took it to the next level. Loved it! The inside is small and we waited for a table. Parking is street parking.
If a struggling artist were to receive $15 to treat themselves, where do they go? The place that has generous portions? The place with good vibes and warm, genuine people? The place with great muffins and palate-pleasing coffee drinks? The place where a genuine meetup with a friend, a creative flow session, or a community gathering on the sunny patio are all encouraged? No need to make the distinction with Common Grounds - it fits the bill! From monthly specialty drinks like the Rose Kiss to the wonderful *and huge* vegan muffins, the lovely folks at Common Grounds are doing it right. Did I mention C.G. is a worker-owned hub? So, community is a big part of what they're about, which translates to the artistic crowd, the retired, the pet parent, the community activists, and the family all being welcomed equally. And they open earlier than most spots! So, to my early-risers, welcome home! Dietary restrictions: At least 2-3 vegan and 1-2 gluten free muffins options. Kid-friendliness: There were young children inside and on the patio. Everyone is chill and warm towards the kiddies: It's not a big space inside for them to run about or anything. But the patio offers more space for them to move about freely.
Wonderful coop cafe! Egg & cheese bagel was sooo tasty & fresh. Coffee & service were great. Enjoyed the vibe, worked at one of the tables for a while with light chatter around & artwork on the walls. Perfect neighborhood coffee shop.Food: 5/5
I am writing this review while enjoying bites of a very tasty sandwich that I just ordered from this place so I am completely under its influence. I easily found a parking spot in front of the restaurant which made it a perfect start. I’ve never been to their old location but this new is really good with outdoor and indoor seating areas where you can bring your book or laptop and enjoy your food and coffee while doing what you want to do. The staff were all friendly and kind, Emma was so professional in taking my order and recommending things that I should add to my sandwich which I found it very helpful, they were busy but the managed to my coffee served in a very short time and the sandwich followed after few more minutes. I remember loved this place and I will definitely stop here again & You too, give it a try and I am sure you will love the experience. Gives me a thumbs up if you found this helpful and follow me to explore more places around the DMV.
This place was pretty good. Went by with a friend while visiting Baltimore and got a sausage, egg, and cheese bagel. It was super crowded inside the day we went, and we had to go outside in the tent to eat. It was cold and rainy, too, and there were only a couple tables under the tarp. I felt bad that there were some others who sat outside where there wasn't any overhead covering. On the other hand, the sandwich provided temporary warmth and satiation: the cheese was gooey and the bagel good. I felt it could've used a tad more salt, however, and the egg could have been just a little less dry from overcooking, but it was good nonetheless. We didn't stay long, as it was cold and wet as I mentioned, but from the food I had, I'd go back, probably for another chance to try some of their pastries. They had a lot of branded merch, and plenty of food items to pick from on the menu. It seems to be a hot spot for brunch and coffee, so keep that in mind in terms of crowding. 4/5 stars
A worker-owned coop, a union shop, serving Thread coffee another worker-owned coop - some of the best beans in Baltimore in a cool space. And the coffee is quite good - what's not to like, and why the 3 *s? They only have disposable cups, even for customers who stay. The cups are compostable, which is marginally better than plastic, but in this day and age anything other than fully reusable items made from traditional materials glass, porcelain, metal is unconscionable. Not to mention that they only had a trash bin, no separate composting bin. This is also an aesthetic issue. When I go to a cafe it is because I want to enjoy the experience as well as drink the coffee. A paper cup just does not cut it. And they close way too early, at 3 pm.
Update: Used to be better quality gluten free items. Nearly a $5 muffin and I can’t eat half of it due to paper being stuck to it. The gluten free sandwiches have less fillings now. The frozen coffees are the same as before. Wonderful shop relocated to Chestnut ave. It’s a warm and friendly kind of coffee shop. I enjoy getting school work done here. Internet has never failed me. Lots of really well rounded food options on the menu. Gluten free items can be made or selected from their pastry options. I recommend the frozen coffees.
Common Ground Cafe is only a short walk away in our neighborhood. As much as we love going to cafes, we do not come here all that often. I wish we went here more because it is so close and we love supporting small, neighborhood businesses, but the reason we don’t is because they are terribly inconsistent. One day, you might get a vanilla latte that is practically all milk and no coffee, the next day it’s coffee forward with no vanilla flavor. It greatly depends on who is making it. Today we got an iced peppermint latte not pictured and it barely tasted of peppermint, even after we sent it back for more? peppermint. Food and pastries are the same. We got the honey baked ham and an egg and cheese sandwich on sourdough toast. Biscuit on the honey baked ham was AWESOME while my sourdough was very dry and lacked flavor. This is sadly a place where you have your “thing” that you get every time and do not venture to try anything else. Again, I wish it wasn’t, and I’m sharing this honest feedback because we want to see this place succeed and we want to support them. But until they become more consistent, we sadly won’t be coming back.
I love this place. I usually get my signature Iced vanilla chai latte w/ almond milk and it's sooo good. the almond milk they use is great. My only complaint is there's rarely ever any snickerdoodle muffins. I've come a handful of times and 2 times were the only chance I was able to get my hands on one. I would say maybe make more if they're so popular or make more at two separate times. I usually don't get a chance to go during weekdays and only weekends and never get them on weekends. But lovely place a staff :
