Welcome to the NEW ACADEMY at Beth Or! We’ve heard your thoughts and we listened! Here’s what you can expect from Academy this year. We’re very excited and we hope you will be too!
• Optional social time. Students can arrive at 6:30 p.m., enjoy free pizza, and socialize with their friends in the cafe.
• Schedule that fits into your family’s busy life. Class time is now 7-8:30pm. We want students to make the most of their time at Academy, yet still be able to be involved in other activities.
• Exciting opportunities for students to expand their Jewish horizons. New options include classes with our clergy for 8th, 9th and 10th grade students and new electives such as conversational Hebrew.
• Better immersion in electives thanks to longer rotations (7-8 week sessions instead of 5 weeks). Students will choose two electives per semester.
Our new tech-savvy Rabbi Gerber will teach 8th grade
Rabbi Gerber brings a fresh perspective to the 8th grade curriculum. He’s all about getting the students engaged in new and creative ways. Rabbi Gerber says, “I am fairly hip, definitely way cool, pretty smart as well as musical, and all about technology, including social media.”
Our engaging Cantor Green will teach 9th grade
Cantor Green brings with him years of experience in teaching teens. Cantor says, “I love challenging students to think deeply about issues such as abortion, drugs, alcohol, Jewish perspective on business ethics and more.”
Rabbi Marx and Susan Edelstein will teach 10th grade
Rabbi Marx has a flair for teaching. His depth of knowledge and sense of humor combine to make learning interesting and enjoyable. Of course, we combine the academics with trips to Jewish Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. (to participate in a Jewish civics programming run by nationally recognized, Panim el Panim) and Israel, this coming December. This is a year to stimulate the mind and touch your heart.
It’s not too late. Now is the perfect time to register.
