Continental Luxury Apartments

It was a very bad experience. We were robbed first by criminals who used a key to get into the "secure" building then we were robbed by the landlord who didn't return over $500 of the deposit.

Pros: Large units, quiet building, pet friendly, parking garage, in suite washer/dryer, excellent maintenance man (he does the best he can with that run down building), convenient location.

Cons: Landlord, crime, the building is old, grimy, smelly, the garage doors do not work reliably, the garage stinks of trash/cigarette smoke, customer service, the gym equipment doesn't work, you can get locked on the roof, you can get locked out of the building during power outages, and you will not get your full deposit back.

We were in a pinch to find living accommodations when a house purchase fell through. We knew about the landlords reputation, but assumed we wouldn't have any problems because we've always been excellent renters. We were wrong, like so many others.

I suggest avoiding these apartments, but if you must lease keep the following in mind. 

1) Be very detailed when completing your paperwork, especially regarding prexisting damage to the unit. Keep a copy for your records and take photos. Alan Pearlman will do the best he can to keep as much of your deposit as he can and (possibly) use it to repair his dilapidated units. You will be charged for things that are prexisting (mold in the caulking that has been painted over in bathrooms, "filthy" ovens, scratched floors, general cleaning fees, chipped paint, etc.). 

2) Do not use the storage lockers, they are not secure. Both buildings were robbed in January 2016.

3) Be aware that the building is regularly cleaned, but it is fundamentally filthy. Look inside the vents, the ducts are coated in grime. We were constantly sick, and no amount of dusting kept the unit clean. The windows are greasy, stained, moldy, and leaky. The hallway carpeting reeks. The garage is leaky and can potentially damage your car's paint job.

4) Document every interaction with the landlord if you need something done. He is unresponsive and when you do have his attention he is rude and treats you like an employee. Sometimes new rules pop up when he doesn't like something.

I liked living here years ago when I was at dental school at Case.  It wasn't right in the middle of the campus or in an urban environment.  There was limited time in my schedule, so it was important to have everything near and it all was.  Shaker Heights is a great place and I would recommend this building to anyone looking for somewhere that is really centrally located with very easy access 480, 271, and Chagrin Blvd.

This is the best apartment building I lived in in Shaker Heights.  The complex was quiet, my building was quiet, and the neighbors were respectful.  I initially looked at a lot of places and settled on this one shortly after seeing it.  I was most impressed by how large the units were compared to others and the rent was comparable.  Wood floors, and large kitchens, and a large overall floor plan sold me on this as well.

Pretty nice building with a great deck area in the back.  Units are spacious, and the grounds are always well kept.  Neighbors are quiet and respectful.  I'd recommend it for a young professional or someone looking for an easy way to downsize.
