Cottonwood Center for the Arts is proud to present Textiles West, a new entity devoted to fiber art, design and education. Also a coworking space, Textiles West aims to inspire widespread awareness, participation and appreciation of fiber art with classes, tools and resources for artists, makers and artisans.
With equipment such as a digital printer, and a large-scale loom (set for arrival at the end of the year), artists will be able to achieve their project goals on a professional level, with close control of the process and product. Coworking space will invite collaboration and support, with opportunities for workshops, retreats and exchange programs.
Textiles West will launch with Tactile, a day of demos, lectures and make-and-takes on Saturday, October 22. From 10 am to 5 pm, Tactile will take over Cottonwood, and feature hands-on crafts like felted balls, block printing and weaving. Kids will enjoy as well as visits from live animals, like alpacas from Wild Hair Alpacas, while adults will be able to attend lectures like Asian textiles from Judy Arnt and slave weaving by Mary Madison.
Development of the Textiles West program was conceived within Cottonwood Center for the Arts by a team of resident artists. Strategic collaboration and funding from the Richard Petritz Foundation made the launch of this new center possible.
