Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College

About

Art under one roof: museum, theatre & art school for all ages

Story

The story of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College (FAC) begins with the founding of the Broadmoor Art Academy by Julie and Spencer Penrose in 1919. During the Great Depression, three dedicated philanthropists – Julie Penrose, Alice Bemis Taylor, and Elizabeth Sage Hare – envisioned expanding the Broadmoor Art Academy into an entire arts district under one roof. The FAC changed its name, built a grand building, and opened as the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center in 1936. In August 2016, the FAC announced an historic alliance with Colorado College and on July 1, 2017, became the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College. The FAC is deeply rooted in the legacy of its founders, who possessed bold visions, a deep passion for the arts, and dedication to the Colorado Springs community. The FAC honors this legacy and spirit today by providing innovative, educational, and multidisciplinary arts experiences designed to elevate the individual spirit and inspire community vitality, building on its history as a unique cultural pillar of the Pikes Peak region. I never realized how extremely talented the actors are here at the Fine Arts Center. In the last two years my family and I have attended four shows which have enriched our lives. We have all made a lifetime goal to attend at least two shows a year. Visits to view the different art exhibits in the museum is what I look forward to each month. Thank you!!!

This was a very cool museum I really liked their courtyard! I was surprised to find that there was not much about Colorado Springs here, but it was very wide spread with all of their cultural material. I like how much interaction things they had, minus the fact most did not work. We were lucky enough to make it here on their "free days event"! But, for a regular admission of $10 I absolutely find it worth it for a one time visit.

Overall a great place for art appreciation, with nice staff, and a gift shop with awesome items. I got to enjoy a very special private collection, but there is always something cool being shared. The kids were not as impressed, however. They only needed about 15 minutes in the tactile gallery and the scavenger hunt was only for the first floor. Most rooms upstairs have cozy chairs and art books for taking a rest, or for bored kids ;) I enjoyed it, but need to go back sans-kids.

Took advantage of the Free Fine Arts Center Day! I enjoyed the new exhibits since the last time I was there a couple of months ago. The staff answered any questions our group asked. We really enjoyed our day there.
