We are a County agency assisting veterans and their families in obtaining federal, state, and local benefits accrued through active duty military service.

Mission

The Office of Veterans Services is a County & State funded agency established in 1944 to assist Veterans, Military Personnel, and their Families in obtaining federal, state, and local benefits earned through active duty military service. Our primary mission is to assist our Veteran community in applying for and obtaining compensation benefits through the US Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA). The claims and application process is complex and often confusing. Our state and nationally accredited Veteran Services Representatives are experienced and highly trained to provide assistance through all steps and phases of this process. We look forward to meeting you at our office, or at one of the many Veteran focused outreach events we support.

This office, especially Marion Moses, Director, and Monica Spohn, office manager, have helped me with the appeal to my denied claim more than anyone else within the previous 5 years I've been struggling with the necessary paper work and procedures. This is not a service office.  This is a place to go if you want to be given a hard time.  Go to another service office if you want result.

I drove to this office today, June 27, 2017 and arrived there at 12:30pm and they were closed.  I waited in the neighborhood until 1:00pm when they opened.  I gave my DD214 to the woman sitting on the right as she was telling her female coworker that she was stuffed from her big lunch.  No greeting, just gesturing to the DD214 I had in my hand.  She asked me for my driver's license and I gave it to her.  She told me to sit down and wait.  I thought that was it and it was painless but it was not to be.  

Around this time an elderly gentleman rolled in in a wheel chair and asked the same woman if "Mary" was in.  Instead of answering his question, the woman asked if the man had an appointment.  He said "No." The man asked again if Mary was in.  Again, the woman said that he had to make an appointment.  At this time, the man raised his voice and said "All I want to know is if a person named Mary works here."  The woman answered Mary was not available.  The man said, IS MARY HERE?  The woman said that Mary is not here.  The man said loudly, I just talked to Mary on the phone and she told me to come to this office.  At this time, another woman emerged from an inside office and said I am Mary but I am with someone right now.  I'll help you after I am done.  The man said that he had to be out of there by 2:00pm.  Mary told him that she was not sure if she will be done by 2:00pm.

Now back to me, the same woman (sitting on the right side of the counter) asked me if I have  the DD214 Member 4.  I said no.  I asked her what's the problem with the DD214 I gave her.  She said that it does not show that I was honorably discharged.  I showed my VA medical card to her and said, look if I was not honorably discharged then I would not be entitled to medical care.  She said medical care is federal, we are county you need to come back with Member-4.  

At this time I was frustrated, I took my DD214, VA medical card and driver license and left.  The man in the wheel chair was still waiting.

It's sad that all I wanted was to have the word "Veteran" added to my CA driver license as I know I served proudly and honorably.  This woman that works at the Santa Clara Veterans Services(???) Office dampen my enthusiasm.  I hope the she will be given extensive customer training or not work at the front office.

Very dissatisfied with the service provided  I have been waiting on home for 2 hours push through the call list twice and hit the voicemail 6 separate times I recommend not going to this place for any veterans  Very rude and impatient front door staff

I think they're doing an excellent job, especially considering all the cutbacks they've faced. I was on hold for less than 1 minute and they looked things up while I was on the phone so I'd have everything ready to go when I went in. I really appreciate having a VA office so close, with such a dedicated staff.

I will have to post a link to my detailed review underneath this in a little while if you haven't seen it yet and it's been more than a month make sure I'm bug me. But I have to admit when you talk to the right people there good things happen
