My daughter was scared, and the entire staff went out of their way so she would have a positive, first dental experience. The dentist showed a great personality for kids with a happy demeanor and a calm presence, coupled with high professional skills. When my daughter started screaming, he was collected during the examination and silly with her after the exam was done. About the concern with parents not being allowed in the room with older children. The back is an open floor plan with staff members circulating the area at all times. No closed doors. I don't see a problem with leaving a child, who is verbal, among many professionals, while you sit in the waiting area a few feet away from your child. All in all, a super positive experience.

Great experience! Wise Doctor! The dentist spent at least 20 minutes talking to us on the phone answering all our questions regarding my autistic son's teeth. We had the option to go elsewhere and have him sedated and have all the work done at once vs. Dr. Ingalls multiple office visits without sedation. This removed a health risk but meant more visits for our highly sensitive son. We were told we would not be permitted in the back as their policy does not allow. We were concerned that with "mom" not being allowed would be a disaster for him. Dr. Ingalls gently explained that special needs kids have very special moms. Mom's want to save their special children and be their protector. He said it's not in the child's interest when a medical procedure HAS to be done to have to deal with a frantic mom at that moment. He suggested we bring in his "heavy blanket" and his headphones. So mom sat nervously in the lobby and waited. The experience was not his favorite but what autistic kid would like going to the dentist frankly? It's a sensory overload nightmare like when mom cut's his hair. Prior to the experience Dr. Ingalls explained that we could prevent much of the pain with the sedation option but our child would be less likely to learn how to cope with hard life situations. If we chose to save him from consequences all the time he would loose out on important growth opportunities. We chose to have the harder "tough love moment" which we later appreciated greatly. Brushing is now a great motivator to prevent the "Dr. Ingels office visit." It's a no brainer to him but it used to be hard. Yes, the dentist visits trumped his haircut moment on his uncomfortable scale but it made haircuts much easier and he get's those far more than he goes to the dentist. It was not tough trusting our child to Dr. Ingalls, it was a very good decision!! No regrets.
