About

Davis' only authentic Irish pub...Home of the 20-oz. pint!

Story

Welcome to de Vere’s Irish Pub!
We are an Irish family from Dublin that immigrated to the United States. Starting on the East Coast and working our way west, we eventually decided to make Sacramento our official home away from home in 1984. The area has always been so good to our family, and we’ve always felt compelled to give back to it.
So in 2009, we opened de Vere's Irish Pub in midtown Sacramento—a place where friends, families, and co-workers could come enjoy farm-to-table food, watch American and European sports, brunch all day, and try more whiskeys than most knew existed.
When the opportunity to open another location in a university town like Davis, we couldn’t resist. To re-create the same experience Sacramentans had come to love for Davis’ students, professors, locals, and families, we went back to Ireland to have all the pub fixtures and furniture designed and built. (It’s true—everything was shipped in pieces across the Atlantic and then reassembled here!) We also filled our walls with family paintings, pictures, and antiques. You can feel the heart of Ireland beating in every nook and cranny.

Ultimately, we want you to experience all that Ireland has to offer, right here in Davis. That’s why we pride ourselves in our inventive food, friendly service, and of course, our 20-ounce pints of Guinness. Come taste the soul of Ireland, poured to perfection and curved to fit the palm your hand.
Mouthwatering meals, beautiful woodwork, friendly banter (and bartenders!), live sports, and a family-friendly setting—you’ll find it all here. So whether you’re coming in to grab a bite, meet for business, or socialize with friends, you’ll be sure to enjoy the best craic in Davis!

Slainté,

The de Vere White Family

Great place for breakfast. Happy hour has wonderful appetizers and tacos in addition to drink options. While visually appealing, the accustic design results in it getting incredibly loud when busy, especially at night.

de Vere's is almost always excellent. Today I'm having the Fry Up. Their homemade sausages along with the sauteed tomato and mushroom and Irish brown bread are a thing of beauty. I started with a cup of today's soup: tomato bell pepper with a dollop of watercress presto, which is fantastic. Always a nice selection of rotating beers on tap and, while a bit pricey at times compared to other local places, they often have some craft beers that you don't see in too many other places. When I used to come in more often, I'd order a side of American bacon as an appetizer and occasionally it would come out at kinda room temperature and that got me in the habit of ordering "American bacon hot", instead of just American bacon. Other than a couple little things like that, their food preparation is outstanding. Nice desserts, good people. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars, because while not quite perfect, it's always very good. I wish I had one of those couches in the library for my house. de Vere's it's not to be missed.

Good food along with a long list of beers, wines and cocktails makes de Vere's an easy choice for an evening out. There are also some special events, like Monday's trivia nights, that can add to the fun.

Before I say anything - let me mention how absolutely gorgeous this spot is. Mosaic tile, stunning woodwork and beamed ceilings come together to create a beautiful restaurant. We came in with a party of seven on a Sunday, and they were able to seat us quickly, which was nice. Our table was seated in a cozy nook and surrounded by framed vintage newspapers. Very nice! They have a full bar and an excellent cocktail menu. Was not particularly impressed by the beer menu at the time, but they had decent traditional Irish beers, so I guess that's fair. The food menu was traditional Irish, so I had trouble finding any food that didn't have meat that wasn't just a side. If I recall correctly, even the salads had meat... I had to ask for mine without bacon. Besides that though, the salad was good! And everyone else loved their dishes. The service was good, not great, but it was pretty busy. Sorta pricey for the portions. Overall a good experience, but it would be the beautiful interior that would bring me back more than anything, to be honest.

We eat there 2-3 times a month. They always remember what we drink, and the food has always been excellent. Remember, it's an Irish Pub, they could keeps thing traditionally simple, but they have specials on the menu that keep the choices fun. We've had everything on the menu, but keep coming back to the Sheppard's pie. de Vere's has Irish pub energy, and a great bar. If you want a quite area to talk, get a table in the library (in the back), or the patio outside, the rest of the pub gets loud when it gets crowded.
