DeBruin Medical Center

Story

Being a family physician is a great privilege and carries with it great responsibility. It is not a part time job, but rather is a full time calling to which I devoted my life. To me it is the most interesting, challenging, and personally rewarding of all professions. Being a family physician is a rare privilege. The family physician should not be so overwhelmed with work that they lose their compassion and burn out prematurely thus leading to impersonal care often seen today.

I believe that the patient-physician relationship, not rules and regulations, should form the foundation of medical care. I strive to provide the highest quality care, emphasizing a comprehensive approach to prevention and disease management. In this challenging era of healthcare, my goal is to rise above constraints and create new methods of providing healthcare for my patients. I want my patients to be completely satisfied with every aspect of their experience

My goal is to provide coordinated, detailed, personalized, quality care medicine to my Concierge patients in an environment of quick easy access and high level service. Patients can feel confident that Dr. DeBruin will be readily available, and as concerned with their welfare as he would be with a close relative or friend. Access to their own personal doctor, with rare exception, should be prompt, direct, and whenever needed.

During my first visit, Dr. Debruin spent most of the appointment speaking into his dictaphone. He barely took any time to address my concerns and quickly recommended labs and x-rays without taking much time to speak to me. I felt rushed and dismissed. Unfortunately, my follow-up visit was no better. He brushed off my concerns about knee pain and initially refused to provide a referral, instead suggesting I contact an injury attorney, which was completely unnecessary. Since English is not my first language, I had my daughter call to help communicate my issues. While waiting, we heard Dr. Debruin shouted, "I can't do this, I'm busy." But proceeded walk towards me and abruptly talked to my daughter. First, he refused to give a referral and said thatbwe needed to see our attorney. My daughter explained that had he taken the time to listen he would understand that the case is close and we are seeking treatment through my insurance which I had tried to explain to him over and over. He also said that pain is normal for my age and dismissed my need for further treatment. This was frustrating, as I am an active person who enjoys walking, and my knee problem has significantly affected my routine. Dr. Debruin’s dismissive and unprofessional behavior made it clear that he does not prioritize patient care. I will not be returning to his office. I urge others to look beyond the inflated five-star reviews. Dr. Debruin is rude, dismissive, and lacks genuine concern for his patients.
We recently moved my parents to Sacramento and needed to find a primary care doctor for my father through his Medicare plan. Based on a recommendation, we chose Dr. Debruin’s office. My father had a wonderful doctor in Los Angeles who was attentive and caring, but traveling back and forth wasn't practical. During my father's initial check-up with Dr. Debruin a few weeks ago, he was disappointed. Dr. Debruin spent most of the visit talking into his dictaphone, recommending labs and x-rays, and then swiftly moving on. There was no personal interaction or genuine care shown. We hoped the follow-up visit would be different, but it wasn’t. Dr. Debruin dismissed my father's concerns and his request for a referral for his knee issues. Given my father’s limited English, I called to ensure his concerns were communicated properly. While I was on hold, I overheard Dr. Debruin shouting, “I can’t do this, I’m busy.” When he finally spoke to me, he was dismissive, saying my father needed to talk to his attorney for a referral, not recognizing that my father's legal case was closed and we were seeking care through his medical plan. Dr. Debruin seemed to trivialize my father's pain, implying it was normal for his age and not warranting further treatment unless it was excruciating. My father is an active, healthy person who enjoys walking, and his knee problem has significantly affected his daily routine and quality of life. During a speakerphone conversation with my father, where I mentioned finding another doctor due to Dr. Debruin’s rudeness and lack of compassion, Dr. Debruin overheard and pettily responded, “This is my personality. I come across rude, but I get things done.” This unprofessional attitude makes it clear he doesn’t prioritize patient care. We will not be returning to Dr. Debruin’s office. Please read beyond the five-star reviews, likely written by friends or family, and see the real experiences of patients. Dr. Debruin is dismissive, rude, and shows no genuine concern for his patients. Additionally, he treats his staff poorly, which further reflects his lack of professionalism and compassion.
I saw Dr DeBruin for many years and although he is quick and to the point, I always felt he and his staff genuinely cared for me and promoted my overall health. However, once I turned 50 and started to have some more complicated issues with my thyroid, his approach of back to back testing without waiting a longer period for my body to adjust led to stress and blood pressure issues. He started me on Lisinopril. When I tried to explain that I wanted to wean off the Lisinopril, he continued to tell me that my high blood pressure was genetic, but I have no one in my family with high BP. I ended up switching to another doctor that was closer to my home that eventually took me off the Lisinopril and straightened out my thyroid meds too my BP is back to an average of 112/73 after 12 months off of the meds. However, if I had been closer to the DeBruin office I would’ve continued to work through him. It’s important to remember all doctors are human and you have to be very clear in advocating for your own health. I appreciated Dr DeBruin’s straightforward approach and guidance and it was an ideal match for me for a very long time.
Our family moved here 1990 and started going to see Dr Debruin, we have always been treated like VIP s. His staff is friendly and works diligently to schedule appointments and referrals if needed for 30 years doc and his staff have always been available to answer questions over the phone and on office visits. his knowledge on physical activity has helped us to stay healthy to do many marathons injury free. In emergency situations even for visiting family, doc and his staff would always return calls and help with the problems. I highly recommend Dr Debruin for family care, we love and appreciate Dr Debruin and his staff.
Dr. DeBruin is a 'quick and to the point', 'no nonsense' kind of doctor, but, also has a big heart and truly cares about his patients. I got severely sick with covid last May which kicked in my Lupus into high gear and was very sick for 4 months. Dr. DeBruin did all he could to help me and finally said "you need to see your Rheumatologist". My Rheumatologist had retired years ago, so he and his staff spent the afternoon calling every Rheumatologist in the Sacramento area to get me seen ASAP. He even personally made phone calls to me off and on to see how I was doing. talk about a doctor being dedicated, thoughtful, and compassionate - he all that and more. I feel so lucky and blessed to have him as my doctor.
Dr Debruin has been my primary physician since I relocated from the Bay Area back in the 90's. The Dr and his team have been consistently outstanding in all aspects. They know and greet me by name. My appointments are easily scheduled, and when I show up I'm seen promptly. Discussions on health topics are made easy by the professional and personable staff. Insurance issues are a non-issue. And the flexibility with appointments or other issues is always there. I've changed employers several times over the years, and my #1 criteria has always been to make sure the Dr Debruin is in the network. Because I will be his patient for life. Thanks Mark and team!!
I have been going to Dr. DeBruin for the past year and have been extremely pleased with the level of care and service that he and his office provide. After having switched doctors recently, Dr. DeBruin has consistently proved that he genuinely cares about the health of his patients and their quality of life. He has not just put a "bandaid" on my symptoms, but he has treated the problem so I can live my best life. I appreciate his attention to detail, professionalism, and accurate treatment and recommend him to anyone seeking a doctor they can trust.
My experience with Dr. DeBruins office has always been a positive one. Dr always walks in the door with my file in hand, I have a few medical issues he keeps an eye on better than I do. Makes me aware of changes sometimes I don’t notice. Also reminds me when I’m not doing what I should. Don’t like it but it’s true. The office stays pretty much on schedule. I’m not waiting 20 - 30 min past my scheduled time, Dr Debruin is always on time. I have asked to be seen last min problem and staff has made it happen for me. The staff both front and back office are on there game love the girls. Dr Dr.DeBruin is great I love this practice.
Dr. DeBruin and his staff are always amazing. I have been going here regulary for over 5 years now. As a DO he goes above and beyond the treatment I’ve had from other providers. Having X-rays, antibiotics, and even joint/spinal adjustments performed in house is phenomenal. I’ve even brought my kids in with illness and injuries and love the way they were tended to by him and his staff.
I have been a patient of Dr. DeBruin for about 2 years now. I have been reading all the comments below about Dr. DeBruin trying to find the best words to express my feelings about him and about his medical staff. Patients writing anything derogatory about his office staff, especially Denise, are just flat out lying, in my opinion! As for Dr. DeBruin, let me tell you my experience. I personally like getting in and out of my appointments with ANY doctor as fast as I can, but for any patient to say he doesn't care, or he herds you in and out, or that he doesn't listen to you, they are angry about not getting what they wanted from him, a prescription he felt they didn't need, or maybe wanted him to falsify a note for their job, etc. Those patients came in for an alternative motive. That is my personal opinion. Dr. DeBruin removed a mole from my back, it turned out to be melanoma, he made sure I was referred to the best dermatologist in this area, Denise, in the front office, contacted and set up my referral to a dermatologist surgeon, I am happy to say I am cancer free. Last week I was so sick and went to a clinic because it was a Saturday where they diagnosed me with a bad chest cold, without giving me a chest x-ray. They did prescribe me with medication but it didn't seem to be helping. My monthly appointment with Dr. DeBruin was that next Wednesday. He saw how sick I was just by looking at me, he called his medical assistants in and had them give me a chest x-ray, that he has in his office, said I had pneumonia, told me to discontinue the meds I got from the clinic, prescribed me medication he had in his office, and that was nice because the thought of going anywhere else that day wasn't going to happen, and I am now well and quit smoking! My point is this, Dr. DeBruin is a great doctor, but if you go in to his office looking for what you think YOU need, he may not agree with you, he has a job to do, it is to make sure you are healthy, and doing the best that you can do. Everything else he provides is a plus, the x-ray machine in the office, medicines, cosmetic procedures, weight loss, etc. So people, if you are looking for an awesome doctor, medical assistants, & office staff, go to DeBruin Medical Center in Orangevale.
