A DePaul education: urban, practical, service-oriented, world-ready. Page guidelines: http://ow.ly/JUGA301u52Y

Story

DePaul University is the nation's largest Catholic university, with about 24,000 students and about 300 degree programs. Its partnerships throughout Chicago enable DePaul to provide an exceptional educational experience that is vibrant, pragmatic and socially engaged. Classes are small and taught by knowledgeable and experienced faculty members who take full advantage of Chicago’s corporate, cultural and community resources. DePaul is nationally recognized for incorporating service learning throughout its curriculum and for the academic rigor and prominence of its programs. Founded in 1898 by the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians), DePaul’s tradition of providing a quality education to students from a broad range of backgrounds, with particular attention to first-generation students, has resulted in one of the nation’s most diverse student bodies. With ten colleges and schools, DePaul has campuses in Chicago’s Loop and Lincoln Park neighborhoods, two suburban locations, and degree programs in several nations. It is a member of the BIG EAST Conference in Division I sports.

Trying to enroll in an online summer course. I attend another university, but have taken a summer course before at DePaul. I reapplied and I also called IT to get access to my old account to sign up. I then tried signing up with the old account but couldn't find the course I wanted on the campus connect search (I also didn't have access to enrollment since my account was not active for a few years). I called IT again and he tried to walk me through searching for the class, but he told me to do it the same way I had already and it didn't show up. However, the class was listed as open on the registrar site and on campus connect using a different browsing feature. I was then redirected to admissions. I told the woman in admissions my situation and she looked up the course and told me it was closed. She redirected me to a counselor even though I'm only taking this class in addition to courses at my own university. I am not taking this as replacement for a course at my university. I got no answers from any of the three people I talked to. My dad, an adjunct professor at DePaul, then called. I was added to the call and once again we talked to three seperate people. The final person we spoke to was the only one who was at all helpful. Turns out the class was not closed or full and I could still enroll. He said that my application was submitted and complete. And I should receive a decision soon and to check online the status of my application and look for an email with directions on how to enroll. He said the process should be quick since I'm only applying as a visiting student. I checked that day and the next couple of days and the status of my application was submitted. I have finally received my letter of acceptance in the mail even though it was sent prior to my checking my status online. So I had been accepted but the website still had my status as submitted. I am still unable to enroll. My letter says I should receive information on how to access campus connect and on setting up a password. I have not received that email yet and it's been 3 days since my acceptance. I'm now going to having to call on 4 separate occasions. This class starts this coming week and enrollment closes Tuesday. Will not take another class here and would not recommend trying to. Waste of time.

I was a staff member of the library for many years. Speaking from that experience and not as a student, I can confirm what many have said, namely that DePaul suppresses free speech. Do not send your child here if you want a "Catholic" environment. They won't get it. I was told I could not have a Divine Mercy photo on my desktop because it might offend someone. I could not listen to Rush Limbaugh on my radio in the office but it was alright to have NPR. Don't be a conservative at DePaul - it simply is not allowed.

I attended undergrad here from 2012-2017. Sadly had to do an extra year due to major changes and credit issues. I harp on this place a lot but the people that go here and some of the staff make it worth while. I found it hilarious to see all the one star reviews. Mainly it's from a event that happened with a fella named Milo came and all this jazz happened. Honestly it's a good school and you gotta find the right people that work for you. There are things I don't like, but I helped found the water polo club. Had a bunch of great professors and friends. It's not a perfect school, no school is. I just wish people would stop looking at that one event it's been a while since that occurred.

I am originally from the Chicago area (I now live in Hawaii). My (very bright) 15 yr old daughter & I have been discussing where she'd like to attend college (my son attends DU) and Chicago is where she wants to be. Sooo...I start researching and researching. Now, as always, I take with a grain of salt when I read online reviews, however, I delved quite deeply into the Milo Yiannopulos debacle that happened about a year ago, and what happened after the fact. It was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING and reprehensible how that entire situation was handled, and their resolution was even worse. No thank you, I'll be sending my daughter to a university that will not suppress her right to free speech and/or allows an absolute circus to occur, while standing by and doing nothing. While those students that caused the disturbance also have a right to free speech, they do not have the right to stand in the way of others free speech and their actions were completely despicable. They, along with DePaul, ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Awesome faculty, great conversations, I've had a great experience so far. I give the kids here hell and most of them can hang with this old staff sergeant. Don't get a useless degree and you'll be fine once you enter the real world.
