Anita Dugatto was elected the 30th Mayor of the City of Derby on November 5, 2013.
Mayor Dugatto is the first female mayor in the City’s history. She is a life-long Derby resident and owner of a small business located in the heart of downtown Derby.
Mayor Dugatto is committed to govern with integrity and transparency. She is focused on rebuilding Derby’s local economy through smart planning, smart growth, and smart economic development. Since taking office, Mayor Dugatto has:
• Created the City’s first municipal website www.derbyct.gov resulting in greater government transparency and efficiency;
• Made strategic long-term investments in Derby’s infrastructure including roads, parks, and public spaces;
• Facilitated the attraction and development of many new businesses in Derby including The Hops Company, New England Auto World, Panera Bread, Planet Fitness, and many others.
• Secured a substantial grant from the State of Connecticut to create, for the first time, a realistic and implementable plan to revitalize downtown Derby consistent with the desires and values of the community;
• Cleaned up Derby’s neighborhoods by demolishing several longstanding blighted properties and guiding many others to restoration and code compliance;
• Secured the installation of solar panels on Derby’s former landfill to lower municipal utility costs while protecting the environment;
• Invested in technology for our schools to improve learning opportunities for Derby students;
• Increased delinquent property tax collection rates, recovering over $1 million in back taxes to date;
• Created the 2016 Plan of Conservation and Development (a strategic planning document) through extensive public outreach to guide changes in Derby so they reflect the priorities and vision of Derby residents;
• Produced the Directory of Senior Services—a comprehensive index of local resources and organizations providing services such as housing, educational opportunities, and healthcare to Derby’s senior citizens and veterans.
Prior to being elected as Mayor, Dugatto was twice elected to Derby’s Board of Apportionment and Taxation serving from 2009 to 2012. She has been a member of the Valley Chamber of Commerce for over ten years, and is currently the President of the Board of Hallock’s Landing.
Mayor Dugatto graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University in 1979 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She went on to receive a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Creighton University in 1998. After dental school, Dr. Dugatto founded Sunflower Dental Care in downtown Derby.
