DESIGNfirst is a residential home remodeling company located just west of Chicago in Itasca, Illinois. The company and the people are great. The showroom is beautiful and offers so many options to customize your home in the remodeling process. The process is so easy from start to finish. The work is beautiful and I would recommend them to my friends and family.

My husband and I remodeled our first floor. We had an outdated small kitchen..laundry area and living room. We opened up walls in areas..added walls in areas as well. We now have a new modern kitchen..full laundry room..and new fun living room! DESIGNfirst provided all ideas,finishes, and construction..along with help along the way! I love our new living area, and would recommend them to everyone. We are calling DESIGNfirst when we remodel our basement as well.

It did not go well. For the price we paid which was very high, I expected a smooth and quick process. This did not happen. First of all, there was a massive amount in turn over with the people we worked with. Our project manager was let go after a few weeks on our project, and a new person (Derrick) came on. Derrick was punctual and good about keeping us in communication, but was not with us from the beginning. Our designer also changed jobs while working on our project, so that was another turn over of staff. I'm not certain, but I believe our initial salesperson also left Design First during our project time. What was happening at this place to have 3 staff members move on within a matter of months? This all made for a lot of confusion regarding our needs for the project (particularly the custom built-ins and the reading nook) and no accountability. One wall of the reading nook is still to this day not right. It was poorly finished, and the dry wall was never even. The bathroom vanity was sent to the wrong facility which made for a 2 week delay in the final punch of our basement. Also, be aware. Design First will NOT completely finish your project. They will try to leave nail holes and caulking undone, and they do not paint your project unless specifically requested (and at a price that you could beat with your own painter). This is to say, that while I expected a "finished basement" from Design First, it was not finished. Filling nail holes and caulking still had to be done after they took their final check from me. I strongly advise you to look elsewhere simply because the value for their price is not worth it. You can find a cheaper quote, and better work for it.
