The purpose of the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority is to ensure support, care and treatment services to adults with mental illness, individuals with developmental disabilities, children with serious emotional disturbances and persons with substance use disorders and their families so they can make choices in care, live in the community and achieve desired outcomes through individualized health goals.

Mission

To lead and support a community system that provides and manages an array of supports, services, care and treatments that honors choice and advances the quality of community life for adults with mental illness, individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, persons with substance use disorders, children with serious emotional disturbance, individuals with co-occurring disorders, their families and the community.

Remove the billboard of ignorance. I've switched and 6 months later felt better than puffing cigarettes for 10 years straight. I'm not winded, I don't smell, my fingers arnt stained. Second hand 'smoke' is a liquid not smoke. If e-cigs are so dangerous please start a campaign of all the foods containing PG and VG properties, (fruit snacks) they must be dangerous right?

Very dissatisfied with the screening clinician, she was pompous, rude, and constantly interrupted me when I spoke. Overall, her insensitive attitude and lack of professionalism really helped me to understand what kind of people are employed at this facility and why 99.999% of patient/public reviews are one-star ratings.

The mentally ill and LGBT community represent the largest demographic on cigarette smokers and this organization is literally telling them you might as well continue smoking.  It's bad enough when health organizations would rather someone get cancer and die than risk a child seeing an adult pretend to smoke but throwing the mentally ill under the bus to this goal is beyond depraved.  

If someone is on heroin switching to methadone for the rest of their natural life is a net win.  But for a mentally ill smoker it's literally, literally, quit or die in the slowest most painful way possible even though nicotine has an insanely high safety profile.  This philosophy is devoid of all moral and ethical worth.  

In fact I blame tobacco control for the decline in vaccine use.  After all citing trace levels of formaldehyde as carcinogenic knowing full well cigarettes with urea are not any safer "educates" the public into thinking vaccines cause cancer.  Same deal with metals like nickle and cadmium.  And sure it's in the soil so it'll be in the plant BUT big tobacco knows perfectly well spending more money on organic tobacco doesn't yield any harm reduction.  

Public health should be embracing the idea of getting as many people off cigarettes as possible, as quickly as possible, for as little cost as possible.  Quitting smoking the right way isn't worth your life and continued smoking only serves to put you in the ground much earlier than expected.  Public Heath is as guilty as big tobacco in the denial of how risky cigarette smoking is.

Before you actually believe this billboard do some research and compare the effects of both. I've been smoking for 12 years and I can see what it's done to my body, e-cigarettes are what saved me and I truly believe that because I can now walk a block and not be winded. Don't let big tobacco win! Even if your agenst e-cigarettes advocate for the few that have used it as a tool to better themselves. Thank you.

I am appalled of your latest billboard campaign.  Why do you lie to the public about e-cigarette's?   I can only think of two reasons one that you're completely ignorant or two you have some reason such as a financial gain.    Scientific  research and facts point out that you're completely wrong on this issue and that these are life saving devices. I was a smoker for over 33 years two packs a day tried all types of quit methods  unsuccessfully, and Vaping  was the only thing that worked for me.  I'm healthier  than I was in my early 20s and I'm in my mid-50s now.  I know hundreds of others just like me who have quit smoking cigarettes because of vapor products.  Please do your research and  cease and the desist your current campaign.
