As of Feb. 21, 2018 It will be a while before we go back. We took a 1 1/2 hours tour- purchased tickets online in advance. IMAGINE stretching out the tour to the usual 1 1/2 hours with less than 1/3 of the usual amount of art work to view and to talk about! The CLOSURES of the MAIN HOUSE and SCULPTURE GARDEN due to the fire smoke damage were UNDER-DISCLOSED. I searched and found the information (after being thoroughly disappointed after taking the tour) kind of "hidden" in the middle of the 'Admissions' page on the website. There was no message about the closures on the 'what's on view' page nor while I was buying the tour tickets. I would have appreciated the partial museum closure information on the front page, where it's easily seen, to have made an informed choice.

I loved this place. I've gone six previous times and introduced countless people. No more. It has become a joke. The first building where you browsed awaiting your tour guide is but a fraction of what it used to be. I bad omen and clue as to what is to come. Building two with it's thousands of incredible items has been reduced to 3 very intense exhibits of perhaps 4 items of questionable value as art. What used to be hours of visually delightful entertainment has become 5 minutes of perplexing judgement as to what is art. The residence and its fabulous collection is closed. The sculpture garden on the grounds is gone. The final stroll through what seemed like a studio is gone. This is now a joke and it comes without warning. My plans included 2 1/2 hours of travel each way. Expensive accommodations. Several meal reservation. A very disappointed guest. The Dirosa should make a very strong statement as to what has changed and what to expect. Also, when it might change. In the meantime, this is a waste of time.

We weren't able to see all of the collection because they were being restored, but the current exhibit on American politics was thought provoking, amd it just meant we took a leisurely walk in the meadows to view the sculptures. Our docent gave us several other recommendations to view art in the area and one in the city on Capp Street.

My family went to the third Thursday open house and had a great time. Great Ska band and arts and crafts for the kiddos as well.
