I have had the pleasure to work for and with Down Home Construction for over four years.  It started when I had Joe and his company build my Trex deck.  From day 1 it was hassle free, everyone was wonderful.  The crew was pleasant and was very clean and organized. My deck was installed when they said it would be, and it turned out BEAUTIFUL! Then I started working for Down Home Construction.  I KNOW that our company is the best around!  We take your ideas and turn them into reality!  I give two thumbs up! This should really be 4+ stars! This summer we contracted with Down Home to build our Trex deck. We contacted a number of other builders in the southeast MI area to get multiple quotes. Cesar, our sales rep, gave us detailed plans (including computer drawn pictures) so we could see exactly how it would look against our home. Every other company provided either no plans (just an estimate) or a hand drawn thing on graph paper. Down Home's approach is much more professional and gives you a great idea of how everything is going to turn out.

The planning of the deck with Cesar went great, we picked colors, rails, lights and lots of other things and all went smoothly. Cesar is a great guy and great to work with, but make sure you keep communicating with him - he can get busy.

Construction started on time and went fast! I stayed home during the construction so I could see how things went, and I could see the crew we had was fantastic...they worked very hard, in the rain on a couple days and came back on a Saturday to wrap up details. I really want to recognize the foreman who worked our crew. He had been in construction and building decks for decades and was a great mentor for the younger guys! He was very patient and detailed explaining techniques and approaches to his guys. He was very dedicated and really cared about how our deck came out.

I would give 5 stars (which in my mind would be perfect, and almost nothing is perfect) except for these small things:
- There was a snafu with how high the ADA hand rail on my steps was installed - to be fair, the inspector was being nit-picky. They repaired the problem without a single fuss!
- The team needs to work on their ground cover work. When the deck is put in a layer of weed barrier and rocks are put down. This was not done with the same level of care as the rest of the deck. Grass and weeds are growing through like crazy - in nice lines where the barrier sections don't overlap where they should. Also, the layer of rocks seems thin to me, maybe 1.5 inches...I would have expected more.
- A cover for my outside electric outlet was broken. They did replace it without me even asking, so that was great.

I'd recommend them in a heartbeat, Joe and Cesar were responsive, they constantly worked through the issues. The construction team was great! The office staff was friendly and helpful. And the Trex product is the best!
