The experience was absolutely wonderful

As a drummer there's no better place I like to be than in a store full of drums and drum equipment. Though, when it came to purchasing drum stuff, for years I would always do my drum shopping online through Amazon or Musician's Friend. The prices on these sites have typically been lower than the local brick and mortar stores, plus you don't have to pay tax. And Amazon's delivery has always been really quick in the past so I enjoyed buying from them. Last week, however, I decided to check out Dynamic Percussion for the first time after seeing an ad in Craig's List about a 12% off sale they were having. I had in mind a few things I wanted to buy and thought I would go to the store, try out the things I wanted to buy, check out the price, then likely go on Amazon and buy it. However, as it turned out DP's prices for the items I wanted to buy were competetive with Amazon's prices, and in some cases even lower - even factoring in sales tax Dynamic Percussion was lower on some items. The items I was looking at was: LP Mambo and Prestige cowbells, cymbal cleaner and drum cases. I ended up buying over $60 worth of stuff at Dynamic Percussion and plan to go back to buy more stuff that I need there. The service I experienced was excellent and friendly too, not pushy and they'll leave you alone if that's what you want. For an example of the service, I asked the salesman about cymbal cleaner. The last cleaner I bought was Paiste cymbal cleaner and it stripped off the brilliant finish on my cymbals. He recommended Groove Juice and even demonstrated it for me in the store on a dirty cymbal with brilliant finish they had. It cleaned the cymbal but did not strip the finish. This is the kind of service you cannot get if you buy from Amazon. Add to that the fact that if you need to return something for any reason it is a heck of a lot easier to go to the local store that you bought the item from instead of trying to return it back to Amazon. And it's definitely a good thing to be supporting local business. I'll be going back there soon!

I was impressed by the wide selection or new, and used gear this store can pack in such a small space. They carry most major brands, and even their own line of custom drums. Not bad for a small shop in such a small town. Dynamic Percussion's prices have a solid price premium as most small (drum only) shops have - and this can be an issue if you're looking for the best deals on a particular item. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, all of them pro drummers who teach, and speak "serious drums" - as the shop advertises, however the owner/cashier of the shop can come off as a sour fella to some folks, consider yourself lucky if he acknowledges your presence when you are asking a question, or even trying to pay! Customers like to feel welcome and appreciated (specially if they know they're paying a premium for shopping at a small shop vs a large, cold corporation). Overall DP is a very well stocked shop with tons of items and brands to choose from, with a wide selection of accessories, and a knowledgeable friendly staff who are also pro educators. So, if you don't mind dealing with the sour owner, and have the extra bread to pay for his prices, this is a shop well worth exploring in Manchester.
