Shannon, although I do agree with you that Tellers should never remain on the telephone while conducting a personal banking transaction, the Availability policy of Wainwright bank is clear as day if you take two seconds to understand it. "Business Days" are defined by EVERY BANK as Monday, though Friday. Saturday and Sunday are not business days. Back in the old days, banks used to never be open on Saturdays, or stay open past 3pm! However, Wainwright, as a courtesy stays open later to better serve it's customers. The Federal Reserve of Boston [The agency of the government responsible for clearing all checks] is not open on the weekends. Therefor, Wainwright has processing deadlines that it MUST meet to comply with Regulation Standards. So, just as the reviewer before me is trying to say, If you deposit on a Friday, before 3 PM , you will have credit for your check deposit as of 12AM that night. However, AFTER 3PM, things change. The tellers must work on BUSINESS DAYS. So, as defined by Federal Regulation, the next Business Day would be, Monday. So after 3PM on a Friday is considered Monday's date of business, and all the weekend work will not get sent for processing until 3PM on that very Monday. So deposits on Friday After 3, will credit on Tuesday at 12AM. Starting to make sense? Wainwright does not have a "screwed up" Funds availability policy. It is a standard that all banks MUST follow. Google "Regulation CC - Funds Availability" and educate yourself, before making an ignorant rant on Google Reviews. Regards, -James [A loyal Wainwright Customer!]

Wainwright Bank is an okay bank for the most part, but the Central Square branch is AWFUL. Most of the tellers are super rude, a couple of times now the only teller on duty was on the phone with a friend and didn't even hang the phone up or put the call on hold while trying to do my transaction (I actually had to tell her that I'd prefer her friend not listen in on my banking). I've been in there when there was only one teller taking customers while the other teller (or other employees, management, etc.) were just chillin' or doing busy work while the line of customers was racking up and waits were over 5 minutes (which may not seem like a long time, but when you're staring at a teller chomping on gum leaning against a wall, it gets frustrating). The tellers seem irritated when I need to do simple things (like get cash back from a check!) and they are NEVER willing to go the extra mile or even inch for the sake of customer service. I have not once had a good experience in this branch. Their available funds policy is screwed up. If I put a check (even local checks) in my account before 3pm (it's 4pm for the downtown branch, I don't know about other branches) it credits to my account on that "business day" - the same day, so if I put in something now - at 10am - it would be available before the end of the day. Makes sense. HOWEVER, if I deposit something after 3pm it is available on the next "business day" - according to their little plaque thing in the lobby. Now here's the catch... the next business day, well, it turns out that it's actually two or three official business days later. So, if I deposit that same check today (Friday), but after 3pm, it won't show up as available funds until Tuesday, sometimes even Wednesday! Even though the next business day would technically be MONDAY! I've argued with customer service and tellers about this being unclear and misleading, but they just don't get it. I'm switching to another bank. This one sucks.
