This is an absolutely fantastic local chain! I have been eating at these restaurants about once a week for more than 10 years. The food is consistently the best Mexican food that I've had anywhere and is the standard that I use to judge other Mexican restaurants. They are always well staffed and the waiters are very attentive, polite, and professional. They keep their facilities in good condition. The only minor issue that I have is that they don't have the most up to date restroom facilities but they are always clean.

El Charro is a great local chain of restaurants. Their food sits squarely and consistently on “good” when measured against a scale of inedible to great. Generally the service is also impeccable and I have had these same experiences in many of their restaurants. I would just advise to beware of busy evenings like Saturday nights at this particular location. I don’t know that any restaurant could handle the crowds that swarm here from JMU. Overall, a good place to get an inexpensive meal that will definitely fill you up.

I have found that Mexican food changes as you travel across the continental U.S. ; some are really quite bad. I must say how pleasantly surprised I was when I decided to give this place a try. The menu was large with many traditional dishes as well as some from the Jalisco region. I ordered the Molcajete, which in this case was chicken, steak, sausage, and fresh cheese in a tomato stew like sauce. It was delicious! If you are looking for traditional Mexican, this is a wonderful place.

Always a great meal. Compared to other Mexican restaurants with a similar menu, El Charro excels. Prices are fair and the dishes come out quickly, fresh and hot.
