Total tourist trap but lots of fun and worth it. NOTICE your check will include gratuity so there is no need to tip. Anyway. It's a lot of and the performers were quite good and sand my favorite song from Rent.... It's funny to see the same people singing also waiting the tables. The food was also surprisingly good. I had a budget and it was decent. The waffle fries are actually really good too. Definitely worth a visit.
3.5 stars, well this diner is spot on for its ambience and waiter/waitress singers. However, it’s a tourist trap in my opinion. This place has some of the most exorbitantly high prices that I’ve ever seen for a diner. $12.50 for a milkshake!? Almost $20 for three pancakes and $7 up charge for bacon fine since it’s Manhattan; the bacon!? In my opinion beyond ridiculous for food that’s the same as any other establishment. Well many would say the singing is why it’s that expensive, however they expect tips to cover that so what makes your food so much more money to make than any other place? I tasted no difference in the quality of food than that of a restaurant a few miles from my house so I have zero clue. The singing is nice for those who want some entertainment while eating but if you just come for the food it’s a total ripoff, sorry but that’s my honest take on this place. I had no choice because I had a show in less than an hour at the theatre next door to this place but if I did have more time I would walk somewhere else because this place is too much money and you can just listen to the people sing online. But the actual service is ok so I did give them a 20% tip which is also included in the bill price regardless if you wanna tip or not they do claim to remove it “upon request” but they did earn it somewhat, could of been a little more attentive but my server was friendly and did get my food out promptly, though I wasn’t pleased that the milkshake took longer to make then the food since a milkshake is just ice cream and milk blended together which they didn’t even give you whipped cream on. Oh and about the lines they do move at a decent pace 10-15 minutes, but if you don’t have a big party you should be able to get in just fine, if you do want to come here. Overall moderate class restaurant, but way too overpriced.
Such a fun atmosphere and the food was great!! If you like being entertained while you dine, this is the place to go. The wait staff was amazing as they double as the entertainment. The food was really delicious and the drinks were fun. They do come around with a bucket for tips for the singing every once in a while, they explain it all and it was only once during our visit- so in no way did it feel overbearing. A way to show appreciation for the goals they have.
The staff and talent are wonderful, that's clearly the draw here. But the food is extremely overpriced. $25 for a veggie burger with no toppings. The cheese sauces are Velveeta, the whipped cream is cool whip, my point being that they aren't using any ingredients to justify the mark up, nor is the menu marked up to support the performers. You're still encouraged to tip the performers and gratuity is added to the bill. No matter how wonderful the performances are, it's an eating establishment FIRST. Paying over $30 for an unappetizing burger an undercooked patty, might I add is criminal. They are so popular, they can afford to mark up their food so why even bother to add premium ingredients or a special sauce? Tourists will eat whatever is put in front of them as long as they're in the presence of a potential star! Someone here has to have some dignity and self respect, either the tourists or the greedy business owners who seem to be exploiting their talent for a quick buck. **The service was bad, but honestly it's bad everywhere in this city. At least you're greeted with a smile and a wave here. Average service, but the food was so bad I didn't mind that the waiter neglected to take out order for the first 20 minutes of being seated.***
Ellen's Stardust Diner offers an enjoyable dining experience with an average food selection, but you don’t really come here for the food, the atmosphere is outstanding. The service and live singing performances by the staff are exceptional, adding to the fun. The tip bucket is a nice touch to show appreciation for the talented servers. Only a 20-minute wait on a Saturday night, it was a fun and memorable evening. Kid-friendliness: High chair available and staff great with kids.
After seeing this place on Tiktok and the inspiration from Glee I had to visit during my trip. We wanted to go for breakfast as I heard the food isn't really what you go for and is pretty 'eh' however the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes and Eggs Benedict were fantastic! We arrived around 8am on a weekday morning and there was no queue and was seated instantly. The place itself is much smaller in real life than what I think videos show and makes it quite hard to listen to others or speak due to the wait staff singing they were all incredible! and so would recommend ear plugs or noise reducing equipment if you're sensitive. Overall well worth a visit and I would recommend breakfast for sure
This place was AMAZING! I think this is the best restaurant I've ever been to in my life, and I doubt that will change. The food was pretty good, nothing crazy, but everything else was amazing! Glasses of cola were already on the table, which was pretty nice. Plus, considering the amount of people compared to servers, the service was great! I got my meal within 5 minutes. The servers are amazing, too. If anyone working from Broadway sees this, these people are great! Parking: walked here, parking in the seats was nice though Kid-friendliness: VERY; TAKE YOUR KIDS HERE IF YOU CAN
A must whilst visiting NYC, had read that food is mediocre but to be fair you go for the experience. We had no wait this morning at 07.45 and it was already busy. Service excellent, food was fairly quickly and was absolutely fine. Singer's were amazing,I could have stayed there all morning. Restrooms very clean. Definitely recommend.Food: 4/5
This was a highlight of my week in NYC! The vibes are immaculate and so fun! I had the avocado toast and thought it was fantastic. Balanced flavors and perfect portion. Our waiter, Bo, was a gem! Every single performance was beautiful. Loved the experience so much!Food: 5/5
I arrived at this place by a mistake. Initially I said to myself: 'what have I done?'. Only to answer to myself that I've done the right thing! The food is okay. Don't expect more than that. The atmosphere is GREAT. This place is filled with ambitious beginner singers / actors that try their luck in the big apple by serving the clients and fulfilling their dreams to be discovered. I was quite sarcastic about it but truly fell in love! Next time, I'll bring the kids in as well. Well done guys! Parking: This is Manhattan close to Times Square. What would you expect? Kid-friendliness: Perfect for kids!
