Here's what I hope is a balanced review of Elm City Electric. Not knowing who to approach in my local area for electrical work, I randomly chose Elm City Electric. I'd recently bought a house and had a list of things that needed doing. Year one, I had them install a 220v outlet for a window air-con unit. No issues, they carried out the work well and that was that. Year two, I contacted them to replace a bathroom heat/light/extractor unit as well as to install some lighting in the attic. Again, no issues, although the electrician who came to do the work wanted to take a short-cut and instead of switching out the whole fan unit, tried to change just the internal parts. When it became clear that wasn't going to work, only then did he do what he should have done in the first place and remove the old unit and install the new. While the new unit works, I can't help feel that since he spent time ripping out the individual parts, only to put them back again, it wasn't exactly the new unit it started out as. Still, it worked, so I left it at that. Year three, I reached out to them again, this time for hot tub hook up, which needed a 220v line between tub and house. They quoted what I thought was a reasonable price for labor and materials, including the necessary disconnect box on the outside of the house. At the time, no issues with their work as such. At this point you'd be right in thinking they don't so too bad and I'd agree. Year four, I contacted them again for another 220v line for use with some welding equipment. Despite calling them multiple times, I never got a call back, so I went elsewhere. Here's where it gets tricky... Another electrician came to quote for the work. During his initial checks, he removed the front of the main electrical panel to get a better look at what connections were what. What was really concerning was the neutral from the hot tub wasn't connected at all. It was simply taped off and left loose inside the panel. To quote the electrician, "whoever did this, didn't know where that wire should go, it should here", and pointed to terminal on the hot tub GFI breaker. Apparently without this wire, the GFI would never know it needed to trip. A bit of a issue with a hot tub wouldn't you think. Upon checking the outdoor disconnect, the wire wasn't present at all, the hot tub installer having left it unconnected and in the conduit somwhere. Needless to say, I went with the new electrician for the new work as well as to fix Elm City's extremely dangerous screw up. I started this by saying I wanted to give a balanced review and I hope I've achieved this. You may have no issues using Elm City, as I did initially, or you may not. I can't help but wonder how well the other items are wired. I guess time will tell.
they never called back been 2 week...going to find some one else
