What We Do

Emergency Aid: We offer limited assistance with basic living expenses such as rent, utilities, prescriptions, repairs, transportation, etc.

Food Bank: A 7-day supply of groceries is issued to individuals or families based on household size and special needs.

Rent and utility assistance: Clients facing eviction or shut offs of gas, electricity or water can receive help through payments to landlords and utility companies, allowing them to keep their housing and basic services.

Cooking Classes: A variety of classes are offered weekly to teach preparation of low cost, nutritious meals. Participants take home their finished dishes and the tools to make them again at home. Classes are open to the community.

Garden: Our organic garden provides a bountiful harvest of fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs, which is then distributed to our clients in food orders and also used in our cooking classes.

Representative Payee Program: This program serves persons who receive Social Security benefits but must have a payee to handle their finances. Clients meet weekly with volunteers and staff, who pay the client's bill from their Social Security benefits, and advocate on their behalf with other agencies.

Referral Service: We network with other local agencies, such as S.R.S and Salvation Army, refer clients to their services if needed, and pool resources if appropriate to meet clients needs.

Mission

Salina Emergency Aid / Food Bank serves people in need by giving food to the hungry and by helping with emergency needs for rent, utilities, medicine, dental care and transportation. We strive to be a beacon of hope and love in our community, and to serve our clients with dignity and respect.
