While passing through Enid, I saw a dog running through a high-speed 4 lane highway. I stopped to check for tags, and the dog jumped into my car. No tags, so I called this shelter. I described my location as "just outside of town" to the dispatcher who answered the phone, and she replied that they can only help people within city limits. So I searched a map of Enid city limits, and saw that I was actually WELL within the limits. I called back and explained, but the woman clearly thought I was lying because of the "inconsistencies in my story". Still, she transferred my call to a man at the shelter, who then spent 20 minutes interrogating me about where I had found the dog. Instead of just helping the poor dog, he prioritized validating my story. He was accusing me of lying and being a dog thief ("Sounds like you just stole some farmer's dog"). His suggestion was for me to DROP THE DOG BACK OFF IN THE HIGHWAY WHERE I FOUND IT, but to not let anybody see me do it. Eventually he took the poor dog in, and was surprisingly pleasant in our face-to-face interaction. But the phone conversation was just too much - it felt like a personal attack on me, just because I happened to be unfamiliar with the boundaries of the city. If anybody finds a stray in Enid, I strongly suggest contacting ANY local animal rescue group first and only using the Enid Animal Shelter as an absolute last resort, as they clearly have no compassion for animals or people.

I cant even give a star rating to this business!! I have several complaints and the first one starts with several calls that myself and neighbors made to help out this poor little german shepherd puppy. It had no shelter and sat outside everyday all day and night.There was a bad storm and raining one night around 11:30 so I drove over by the house and there sat the puppy, it was raining so hard I could barely seem him but I shined my flashlight and could see his eyes. I was so upset! So I talked to my neighbors a few days later and they said they called several times complaining about the care of this animal and got the same answer that I did, that the puppy had shelter. This was total BS!! eventually the puppy disappeared. Hopefully someone stole him and gave him a better life. I went out to animal control just to check out the facility and saw a man spraying down a pen while the dog was still in it!! really?? Im pretty sure this is against policy!! Im so disappointed with these people and their lack of caring for animals. We are the only voice an animal has when they need help. But from what I hear and have now witnessed for myself what they think is proper shelter and care for an animal is totally different than what most of us think. I have never lived in a town where the animal control was like this. For the sake of the animals I really hope something changes.

I called to check and see if they had found my cat or if someone had called them about my cat. They were very helpful.

Only the volunteers are interested in the animals & being a positive factor in their community!
